The 330 acre grounds were a highlight, with miles of walks through hummingbird gardens, tropical forest, hanging bridge, a swimmable waterfall etc. Too many species of birds to count. Restaurant and deck were terrific with unbelievable mountain, lake and bird views. Rooms are interspersed through the grounds; ours had an amazing mountain and garden view through enormous windows. Staff couldn't have been more helpful.

Emplacement unique dans le parc national, avec des oiseaux à multitude, et des sentiers de marche nombreux et faciles. La meilleure vue sur le volcan Arenal. Visites guidées excellentes. Avons vu des petites grenouilles, des serpent, un armadillo, des coatis, etc. Piscine excellente. Chambres super. Bon restaurant. Un bain de nature exceptionnel.

It has a spectacular view. The grounds are gorgeous. The staff very friendly. Food very good. And the view!! Lovely walking trails and activities. We will be back! The only problem is that it is remote on a mountain. If you have a car, no problem. If you need transportation to La Fortuna it gets pricey.

The lodge and trails were beautiful. So much to see. The staff were so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We had a morning and evening walk with Christian #2 and saw so many things. He was wonderful. We can’t wait to come back.

Outstanding place to stay! Beautiful grounds, great accommodations and excellent staff! We saw so many wonderful birds thanks to their feeding station. We did their night walk tour and it was fascinating! I’d highly recommend staying here. You won’t be disappointed if your looking for beautiful grounds, great service and bird watching.

The location of this property and the trails and overall maintenance and view of the Arenal Volcano. However the last 5-6 km from main road to this lodge needs to be paved. Its difficult to drive and specially in the night.

This hotel was great and the views of the Volcano from your room was amazing. A lot of hiking trails…my only regret is not staying longer.

Beautiful grounds with walking/hiking trails. Our room had a balcony with the lake view and it was amazing. Property offered a free guided nature tour in the morning for the guests. Full breakfast was included.

The trail system, the pool, the dining menu and the prime location all contributed to a positive experience at this lodge. This is our second visit at Arenal Observatory Lodge and we continue to appreciate the well maintained gardens and trails, as well as the variety of birds in the area.

My family and I loved the grounds- specifically picked this hotel for its natural surroundings. Beautiful property and large, so great for hiking. It is a bit more remote though and there is only one hotel restaurant but it was very good- it was just a bit pricey. We did not leave the hotel after it got dark (6pm) because the road conditions are not that great so our only real choice for dinner was at the hotel. Overall still an excellent stay.

Un site merveilleux et un aménagement paysager fantastique. Cuisine de bonne qualité. Par contre nous avons eu un désagrément à propos du site de notre chambre qui était située à 650 mètres des différents services sans qu’on nous en ait prévenu au moment de la réservation soit 4 mois avant. Un service de navette était disponible mais les inconvénients sont nombreux. Lorsque j’ai demandé de changer de chambre on m’a répondu qu’on ne pouvait pas m’aider.

It was a great stay and we had a great time. Best views of the volcano. Bird viewing deck was a treat. The only thing the rooms were missing was a curtain/blinds for the bathroom sink area window. Lot of light was coming from outside so couldn't sleep well.

Best place in La Fortuna area…views and walking trails make the place very special. One of the kind not spoiled by mass tourism.

Although a bit above my usual hotel budget this property was excellent value. Beautiful location and huge grounds to explore. Helpful professional staff. Excellent breakfast and reasonably priced dinner menu.

The Location is unbeatable! Book here, Book here, Book here. How often do you get to wake up next to a volcano surrounded by nothing else than nature and trails? This property is GREAT for bird-lovers. We stayed in the shared-bathroom area. It was really nice! Note that the rooms do not have TVs nor Mini Fridges. We loved the bar which had a very generous happy hour! The restaurant's food was very good! It was maybe a few dollars overpriced but still pretty reasonable. My wife's experience at the spa (massage/facial) left a lot to be desired. The spa worker didn't communicate very much and left her along for 20 minutes with no explanation. The Location feels awesome and secluded, but it's such a short drive to La Fortuna, and even closer to lots of thermal water pools (including the free Chollín).

The grounds are beautiful, the staff are wonderful. The beds are comfortable and the views are spectacular. I loved everything about it. Next time I might rent a car though.

There are very few places like this to stay, globally. The grounds and location take a backseat to nothing. The staff is friendly without being intrusive. Shout out to Howard and his sports knowledge! The food is very good with a mix of local fair and plates for those wanting a taste of home. The trails system is good for lots of heavy breathing or casual strolling with nature delivering new and beautiful things either way. An exceptional place - book it if you can.

This place is awesome! We stayed two nights and really enjoyed walking around their 11km of trails. We walked down to Danta Waterfall, which was crazy! There are lots of fun things to do around the area. I suggest the Bolgarin Trail with a private tour…. The Ecotermales Hot Springs is also amazing!!! Make sure to book the hot springs with dinner - Buffet-style, sooooo good. Staff at The Arenal Observatory were so wonderful. Really enjoyed our stay.
