In response to your request for a refund - we are transparent, and upfront, in our reservation listing, mentioned this low rate has no cancelation/no refund/no alteration policy, even due to road closure and weather conditions because we just cannot survive if we don’t have that in place. We are not trying to be unreasonable or heartless toward you; we just need to be able to stay in business. We would like to give you our perspective and for you to understand where we are coming from as a very small, “mom and pop” business .. not a huge, hotel chain (though even massive conglomerate hotel chains have the same no cancelation / no refund policy). We hope customers purchase trip insurance if they are worried about situations such as this. Considering the fact our cabins are at a very high mountain altitude of 7500 feet, and people come specifically for the snow conditions, this is a very reasonable expectation since it’s very likely that difficult conditions like these will occur. We try very hard to support our local community, including hiring locally as much as possible and the local people depend on businesses, such as ours, for employment. Most of our local employees live in poverty and their families depend on every paycheck. Half of the employees don’t have a bank account, some employees don’t have a cell phone, and a few employees drive inexpensive, unreliable (especially in severe weather conditions) vehicles. In addition, doing business in Big Bear is extremely hard due to higher operation costs, higher taxes, terrible road conditions, bad weather, road closures and labor shortage. By the time you ask us for a cancelation/refund, we have already scheduled employees to work and we must pay the employees’ salaries and other costs to prepare the cabin before your scheduled arrival. We strive to do our best to stay open to support the local community and to protect nature, the lake and the mountain. We hope you understand, now, why we have the policy we do. Please feel good about the fact that you are helping these local people help save the forest & mountain and are helping us stay open so that people, such as yourselves, can enjoy this environment as a vacation spot. Your payment will be used for our team members who are struggling to maintain basic human needs including medicine, groceries, diapers, and shelter. We hope you will understand the extremely difficult circumstances.
