If you're looking for a city break in Cardiff then Cardiff Bay is a great location. I especially liked the location of voco St David's because it has the wetlands nature reserve on one side where you can sit and enjoy birdsong and a low key beauty. And on the other side it has pubs, bars, chain restaurants, statues, interesting buildings like the Parliament and the church where Ronald Dahl was christened.
The rooms have a floor to ceiling window leading to a balcony with a great view over the bay. Balcony doors are heavy and if you go out at night to take a picture wear shoes. I was in flip flops and skinned my big toe on the door. I'm clumsy, it's not the door.
The spa is included for guests. I didn't book treatments but I did enjoy the large swimming pool and the hydrotherapy pool. It's excellent. Clean, spacious, friendly spa staff. I even went down the next morning and got a plaster for my toe from the spa reception.
I had breakfast in my room. Can recommend. I ordered vegetarian sausages hoping they would be traditional Glamorgan sausages and they were! The food was perfectly seasoned but I wish they had put a salt and pepper shaker on the tray. I like extra pepper on my eggs and extra salt on my fried mushrooms.
