The location was great, most of the restaurants were close too, but that’s pretty much all. There weren’t any facilities at the hotel whatsoever, especially for the price paid. The service was subpar and I doubt I’d visit again.

The rooms were huge and the staff was very helpful and pleasant. The view was beautiful. It could use some updating and amenities and maybe some deep cleaning in the common areas but It is definitely worth the price for a place to lay your head!

Peaceful stay in Chesterton.
This is my second time staying at the Waterbird and I really enjoyed my stay. I used to be a resident of the area but now live out of state but have needed to come back to see my mom who has been having medical issues. Staying at the Waterbird is so peaceful and relaxing. The lake views are beautiful. You can sit out on your balcony and be right over the water. The room was clean and front desk staff was friendly and helpful. This is a no frills hotel in terms of amenities, but being right on the lake is totally worth it.

Huge 2 bed room with a beautiful lake view and the room was clean and comfortable. I wouldn’t go to any other hotel in the area.

Quiet, healing, peace, turtles.
My mom has been through numerous medical issues this year and I live out of state from her. She had to be placed in a care facility and her home has a lot of work that needs to be done on it to prepare it for sale. I had been trying to stay with relatives when I would come into town but it was hard on everyone involved and I would crave quiet time. So I decided to stay at a hotel. My husband and I lived in Chesterton for 7 years before we had to move for his job. I booked this hotel because it was close to my mom’s facility and I fell in love with it. Sitting on the balcony over the lake was so peaceful. And I never knew this lake existed!! And I used to live here!! It is an older hotel with not many frills, but it’s clean, close to numerous restaurants, and you can’t beat waking up to that view. It reminds me of going up North to WI, MI. And all the turtles!! I loved feeding the turtles. I will definitely be back.

My favorite hotel
The Waterbird is the most reasonable and comfortable hotel for the price in Northwest Indiana with great views, large TVs, and a modern yet cozy aesthetic. The one time we had an issue with our television, an employee was quick to come fix the issue and could not have been friendlier. I love watching the geese on the pond in the morning before check out.

Quiet peaceful place for rest
Clean and comfortable rooms. Nice view of the lake and balcony right on the water. If looking for pool/ indoor pool, weight room, bar/restaurant then this is not the place for you. Local fast food and grocery and other shops close by.

Love This Place
Another amazing stay but wish the staff would address the cleaning of the patios/balconies. We’ve stayed here numerous times and love it. The room was amazing as usual but this room in particular had a balcony/patio that had not been tended to after the last guest. There were empty cans of alcohol and an over abundance of spiderwebs and spiders all over the balcony area. I handled the issues myself but hope the staff will take care of these sorts of things down the line. Other than that I have not one complaint. This place is great!

Our original room had what looked like blood stains on the carpet. The sliding door to the deck would not close. It was offset within the frame. Directly below us were two guys fishing off of their deck. We were upgraded to a whirlpool suite which was better as far as cleanliness and operation, but was still in need of upgrading. The amenities were very limited and there was no breakfast available. The room was quiet and very comfortable however and we did get a great night sleep both nights!

Need a shower
I read reviews and take them with a grain of salt you can’t please everyone. That being said it was not that bad of a room the little deck over the water was kinda neat. The problem was when I went to take a shower the faucet handle was broken and the leaver to lift up and turn the show on was non existent. Then when I went to check out no staff was on duty 😳 I’m sorry but I think for a room that costs 200.00 a night you should get to take a shower and have staff in the morning to check you out.

The lake view was gorgeous and very peaceful in the morning. Room was clean, but not in the best condition. Looks like they were in the process of remodeling. Staff could’ve been friendlier, but were not necessarily rude. Overall the stay was very average. Good for a one or two night getaway.

My recent overnight stay at WaterBird Inn was a complete nightmare, and I am compelled to share my experience to warn others. I wouldn't wish this ordeal upon my worst enemy, especially if they have children. Upon entering the room, it became immediately apparent that the property was in a state of utter disrepair. The room's condition was shockingly poor, with a damaged closet, broken bathroom, and missing mirror that left a lasting impression. It felt more like a forgotten storage room than a welcoming hotel room. Our hopes for a relaxing stay were dashed by the realization that we were essentially staying in a rundown dump. The most alarming aspect, however, was the presence of exposed electrical outlets throughout the room. With our two toddlers in tow, this was an absolute nightmare waiting to happen. It is absolutely inexcusable for a hotel to neglect such a basic safety precaution. We had to scramble to find ways to shield our children from the hazardous outlets, which was an unnecessary burden during what was supposed to be a relaxing getaway. But the pinnacle of the disaster came when I went to the front desk to voice my concerns. I was met with a scene straight out of a surreal nightmare – the front desk attendant was fast asleep at their post. I tried everything to rouse them, but it was as if they were in a coma. It was clear that customer service was not a priority for them, nor for the establishment as a whole.

The room was very large with a king size bed facing the patio doors, which opened onto a balcony hanging over the small lake. A fridge and microwave really came in handy. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching all the birds and turtles. Also, there was a laundry in the motel was really came in handy to dry our swimsuits after swimming at the dunes.
