The Manoir comes as quite a surprise as you pull off the road - a tree-lined drive leads up to a splendid manor-house fronting the river, with extensive gardens and a swimming pool. One of its main selling points is its gastronomic restaurant, which is indeed a joy and not to be missed. If weather permits (which in our case it did!) dinner is served on the terrace overlooking the river, preceded by aperitifs in the garden.
Rooms are large and atmospheric (as are the beds!) and comfortable, albeit unintentionally shabby-chic in some areas. Waiting staff in the restaurant are young, enthusiastic and professional - do take the advice of the sommelier, who won't try to rip you off but will recommend well-chosen wines to accompany your meal.
An ideal place to break your journey to or from the South-West; you will leave refreshed and more than a little envious of the charming owners!
