Only one used toilet roll in room on arrival, looked as if housekeeping had only made up the bed , room didn't look as if it ha been cleaned after last guests, no hairdryer in room,bare magnolia walls,couldn't get TV to work management were not very helpful to ty and fix problem. Very disappointed as we could have used hotel as a stopover on our journeys home from Wales.

Very average
This hotel is ideal for walkers who want a clean bed and some good pub grub for the night. We were a last minute booking and not walkers. Our room was in need of refurbishment. There was a problem with the shower ie no hot water which I did notify the staff of. The staff were very pleasant but the place obviously had a problem getting staff eg. The lovely guy who was serving us was also the barman, waiter, dealing with residents booking in clearing tables in what looked like a very busy evening.

We only noticed after we were packing up to leave that the duvet was very dirty, and we had to ask for toilet paper. Nicci was very helpful!

Disappointing stay at the Greyhound Inn
We arrived a bit late in the evening (we had let them know in advance). We had to wait a while to check in, as they were dealing with another customer who had an issue with his bill. It would have been nice if one of them could have helped us check in while the other took care of the other customer, as it was late and we had just driven a long way. When we got into our room, we had to kill several bugs. They apparently came in through the open window, which we then closed. Unfortunately, the small room was then incredibly hot and stuffy. There was no airflow at all. The hallway outside the room was about 10 degrees cooler than inside the room. There were also small spots of stain on some of the sheets and towels. The bathroom itself was clean, though. None of us slept well, mostly due to the room temperature and stuffiness. On the positive side, there was a good selection of continental breakfast items and made-to-order hot items, including vegan and vegetarian options, which we appreciated. Also, the staff members were all very nice and did their best to be helpful and accommodating. Unfortunately, due to the issues in the room, I would not stay there again.

Old pub hotel with much character, very nice comfortable room. We had dinner in the bar which was very good. Bar had a real fire and real ale, very nice. Breakfast the next day was very good with many cooked options. Very good value overall.

Spur of the moment booking & we found this little gem! Have used booking sites before & occasionally a place shows up thats a real nugget. This was one of them. Exceptionally clean & well kept, well appointed rooms & fittings. Good choice of well kept real ales . Excellent well cooked substantial breakfast.

Shap's hidden treasure ?
Welcoming, helpful and pleasant staff helped make this overnight stop more than that. It's a lovely, characterful hotel and well appointed with all that was required . The room was excellent and vey clean and comfortable.The food was excellent. We were happy to see a busy dining room with many locals which is always a good sign, The Greyhound did not disappoint and is worth the couple miles off the M6 to find. Thanks , we shall be back !

Excellent base.
A very good base to explore the Lakes. We were made to feel very welcome and were looked after very well. Breakfast was well organised and very enjoyable. The ambience in the evening was very agreeable after being out and about all day. We would definitely book again and recommend to friends and family.

An alternative to staying in Kendal
I had stayed in the Greyhound in July 2019 and used it again recently instead of staying in Kendal whilst on a two day course. Great food, clean rooms and friendly service attracted me back

Stopover close to M6
Only a one night stay but had a clean and spacey room. Menu a little disappointing for a Friday night as a few things off the menu but breakfast very good. Plenty of safe parking, WiFi free but not brilliant reception, friendly staff. Ideal location for touring and as a stop over on a long drive to scotland

Great hotel, excellent in every way
Absolutely brilliant in every way. We booked late and they bent over backwards to be helpful, including getting our meal sorted for us when we arrived quite late. The room was charming; clean, comfortable, stylish with a lovely view. The food was also excellent and ideally situated as a stop-off on our trip to Scotland. Top marks!

Not what was expected from the good reviews. Very slow check-in process due to lack of staff. Around 20 flys in room on arrival. Took 1 hour 40 mins! from taking table reservation to actually being served food at restaurant prices (no apology). Toilet wouldn't flush and power was out in room when arriving back for second night. Room wasn't properly serviced between nights e.g. No milk or teabags replaced. Most issues resolved after bringing them up with management. Although too many to earn a recommendation or return visit.

Really friendly and helpful staff gave a warm welcome from arrival through to breakfast the next day. The room was huge and well fitted out but a little drafty - we were in the middle of storm Erik! The food was excellent and we really enjoyed Friday night in the bar afterwards. Overall, a great place for a stopover on the way north. Thanks to everyone at The Greyhound.

Great room, great food, great staff. Absolutely cannot fault them at all. And such good value for money. If you are browsing and are yet to choose, pick here, you won't be disappointed. Hotel was easy to find, only a few minutes off the M6 so ideal as a stop over point on a trip north/south, although I believe is pretty much on the Coast to Coast walk so would be perfect for a stopover on that as well! It's a little bit outside of Shap centre, not that that really matters as there's very little in Shap itself anyway (a Co-op, a couple of pubs, an outoor swimming pool if the signs are to be belived). The staff were great, friendly, helpful, everything that you could want. The room was excellent, we got room 5, which is apparently the best room in the house (although I'm sure they say that to every guest!!) and it really was, gorgeous beamed ceiling, exposed brick wall, recently renovated with a new bathroom and new fixtures/fittings/carpet. We had dinner there and it was excellent, small menu with good home cooked food. Breakfast the next morning was also great, with it being "free" I expected a basic continental, cereal, toast etc, but full english was available as well as cereal, toast, juice, tea, coffee etc. All in all with the bed and breakfast cost, plus our bar / dinner bill, I felt it was exceptionally good value for money as well as being one of the nicest places I've stayed. Thanks very much to the hosts for the warm welcome :)

A newly renovated hotel with a few still unfiished features/details. In general we had a good stay at the Greyhound Hotel and it was mostly thanks to the lady ( manager? owner?) who went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. Upon arrival the check-in was very smooth and we were taken up to our room (no.6). The room had a kingsize bed and 2 sigle beds. We immediately noticed no facilities to hang our coats on or put our luggage on. The room was quite cold and there was a distincitve music coming from the bar area (I think the speakers must be fitted in the ceiling above the bar which is directly below the room). The most dissapointing feature in this room was the bathroom though. Clearly newly fitted with unfinished seals around the shower, walls that seemed like they were primed only, unfinished step to the athroom, but the worst was the smell there. The manager was very quick to help us and immediately moved us to another room (no.1). This room was much bigger with a beautiful barn-style high ceiling which unfortunately on a December night also meant that the room felt much colder. The manager immediately offered an extra blanket which in the end waasn’t really needed as the room warmed up nicely. The room was definitely much quieter and it had a beautiful view over the hill. All in all we were happy with our stay but I must say even room 1 seemed unfinished to us (paint on bathroom floor, peeling paint on the walll, no coat hangers, no door handle in the bathroom).

Lovely Little Find
Newly refurbished with lovely but small room. Single glazing windows mean that you hear the traffic from the village road but it didn't bother us. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Bar and restaurant were comfortable, affordable and a great selection. Easy access from M6 and would definitely go back

This is going to be a lovely hotel
Easy to find. Big car park. Well signposted. Lovely staff. The hotel is still undergoing a complete renovation but taking this into account everything was excellent. Breakfast was good. No food on in the evening yet but soon. Minor things like a handle needed on the inside of the bathroom door, a small shelf needed near the bathroom basin to put toothbrushes etc on, toilet roll holder needed but these will all be seen to in the near future. This hotel is going to be very popular as a great location from which to go in any direction. Would recommend. Chris and Karen.
