Definite recommend
Husband stayed here on his own previously on walking trip, bought me this time and we got the 4 poster room, billed as being best room in the Hotel, Room 12. Has dual aspect windows with amazing views and a jet bath. Restaurant and food was amazing. Nice choice of breakfast although trimmed down due to Covid-19. Free toiletries, tea/coffee, bed was very comfy and room very spacious. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Definitely coming back!

Excellent dog friendly hotel. Outstanding food and customer service. The stall are so friendly and always willing to help in any way possible. Small personal negative, the pillows were extremely hard, but the bed was huge and very comfortable.

The bar and bar staff are great and very welcoming and helpful . The location is great . Bar food is good . A little tired in areas i.e. Bathrooms and shower. Noise does travel , but it's an old building so you can expect that . We enjoyed our stay again .

The hotel is very pet friendly. I loved it. Unfortunately it was not clean and the breakfast was not good. No bread on breakfast table! I dont know how one can have marmalade and butter without bread. The service was poor but the staff were friendly.

Great location - great pub
If you a re looking to stay in a proper country pub with amazing views, good food and great beer - choose this. A little rough around the edges it has bags of character. Rooms are clean, beds comfy - and the breakfast is excellent. Staff friendly. If you want power showers and a frothy latte stick to the formulaic 'Spa hotels' by the lake. If you want a great choice of local beers, hearty food and live music then try here.

It was well situated for everything we wanted to do walks commutes to other places and for accommodating our pet dog Dexter .The staff were very friendly and the food was spot on

We had a problem with our room but it was handled well and another one found without any fuss. We were also treated to a free breakfast as an apology. We found all the staff happy to help. The restaurant had a good choice of food and was very well presented. All in all think we would go bacl again.

Amazing location with fell views, and really friendly staff. Room slightly dated but clean and very comfortable. Food was excellent with big portions. It was lovely sitting in front of the open fire. We will definitely be returning.

Good but ...
Food was excellent, room was comfortable. Restaurant and bar very busy which caused delays in getting served food or finding a seat in the bar after eating which meant we had to go to our room. Couldn’t check out as no one able to do it so had to wait around for 30 minutes.

Loved our long weekend at the Mortal Man!
Perfect location, great food & good selection of real ales & ciders. The rooms were a bit dated but clean & comfy, so no complaints - will definitely stay again, really enjoyed!

Nice, clean, well presented hotel in a lovely location. Plenty of parking. Ideal for walks out into the surrounding country straight from the door. We arrived on Sunday afternoon around 4:30 on the May Day Bank holiday and the staff looked stressed and frazzled with the volume of people they had and were still serving throughout the hot day. Welcome wasn't the warmest but we put it down to them being massively under staffed, something management clearly need to address. The menu looked good but they had been so busy quite a few items had sold out including all the roast dinners but the food we did eventually order was very nice. Good selection of ales/ciders on tap and plenty of gins to try. Continental breakfast was included, anything cooked from the menu was chargeable which we were made aware of at check in. Not a complaint but something that could have been mentioned on the Expedia website before purchase. Would I stay again? Possibly if I was planning some walks in the immediate area but with so many accommodation options in the Lakes I'd be tempted to try somewhere else.

Wonderful Little B&B
Really lovely view, we only stayed for a night but we’d definitely stay again. A full English was £5 extra, but it was worth it. Lots to drive to in a relatively short time; all in all, it was a nice night!

A nice clean comfortable hotel.
We only stayed one night but our stay was lovely. The breakfast was well worth paying the extra, which kept us going all morning. The bar also did a nice lunch and coffee. The only thing I didn't like was dogs in the bar, we had a very noisy dog whilst having lunch.

Good value old inn in stunning location.
Friendly helpful staff in an old inn with spectacular views.Comfortable room , all usual amenities, ours was a small double but fine. Supper service slow but food good, very popular with locals and visitors alike.Parking OK and dog friendly bar and rooms a bonus for us.

Nice Hotel (pub) with pretty views and atmosphere
We enjoyed our two night stay at this Hotel with high aspect and distant views of Lake Windermere. The pub is nice, food is good, room is spacious.

Be Careful About What Room You Get!
We were so unhappy with our Thursday evening stay as the music in the pub area was so loud and disturbing when we were trying to sleep. It started at 9 and did not end until 12 midnight; drums, shouting, singing etc. It was AWFUL. Our breakfasts were outstanding and the location was good. Beautiful scenery while in the dining room-my room looked over a garden with people eating and making a lot of noise.

Worth a visit
A very comfortable stay with amazing views. The food was exceptional. The room would benefit from decorating and some finer details like furniture placement like the mirror being nearer to electrical socket for hairdryer. The staff were lovely although thin on the ground. Having said that I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Our Gps sent us on an unsuitable track to the Hotel, I did suggest the Hotel make this clear on their website, and give alternate directions.

Lovely country pub
We stayed for a long weekend before Christmas and arrived quite late, however the staff were waiting and very friendly. We had a twin bed initially although had requested a double, this was rectified the second night. The room was spacious and comfortable although a little noisy in between rooms and the cover to the fan in the bathroom fell off, luckily no one was directly underneath! Generally nice, lovely restaurant and location very handy for Windermere and Ambleside.

Short break
the 29th of October was the 4th anniversary of my daughters husband sudden passing away, we decided to visit the Lake District for a short break, to show my 14 year old granddaughter some of the places her parents visited together.

Last minute tranquil stay
The Mortal Man is a quaint old country inn with several rooms (at least 12!) about 5 miles east of lake Windermere. The setting is handy as there are plenty of easy walks adjacent to the inn, and it's easy to get back to Windermere and other areas of interest. The hotel is nice, roaring log fires, excellent food (make sure you book a table at weekends, even as a resident), and all of the staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful. Will be going back, great place in a great place, thanks to the Mortal Man for having me!!

A Real Old English Country Inn
I love how this inn squares with my imagination of what an English Country Inn should be .....think of Thomas Hardy or DH Lawrence, or the Bronte sisters. When I'm in Endand for a hiking holiday ,I want clean enough rooms , a cheerful host, a real bar ,and a tasty menu with hearty homemsde,satisfying food .Immaculate rooms with modern furniture with false distress marks are not real , and thank goodness this Inn doesn't have them. This place is the real deal !

Comfortable place to stay
Good experience at the Mortal Man Inn. Breakfast was very good, having the usual selection of cereals and cooked breakfast options. The staff were polite and attentive. Car parking was free.

Nice Hotel in a nice area
The rooms are comfy anD clean but you can smell that all food is prepared freshly :) The food at the pub that belongs to the Hotel is very good. Super nice staff

Good breakfasts but very poor choice for evening meals which were also overpriced. Helpful staff and good walks from doorstep. Would not return.
