Thank you for your review as it provides me an opportunity to be clear about several points you raise.I would urge all of our guests to make themselves aware of our check-in times and not assume that exceptions can be made for them. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are aware of the terms and conditions of your booking and abide by them, as we do.Our check-in times are clearly stated on all of the websites we use. Our Reception closing time of 10pm is in line with all of the other YHAs across the Lake District except two. We take the check-in process very seriously not only for the safety of those staying in our hostel, but also as we are a charity for young people we are required to verify ID of everyone staying at the hostel which is why we would never leave keys somewhere unattended for late arrivals as suggested. We will always try to transfer bookings to the only YHA in the Lake District that does have a 24 hour check-in facility but as it is the busy Summer period, this is not always possible.Please be assured that there are always staff members nearby overnight in the event of emergencies and to ensure the safety of our guests but this does not mean that we have a 24 hour check-in service.Finally, when you emailed us to express your concerns, you received an appropriate and timely response from our Hostel Manager which was followed up by our Customer Resolutions team.Kind regardsTeam Grasmere
