It might be nice when it is finished, but i wouldn't bank on it. Outdated, falling apart, bar/restaurant closed. Workmen all over the building. Breakfast was awful - at last minute told kitchen was closed so no hot food - despite menus on the table for cooked breakfasts. Continental breakfast was not fresh, cheese was sweaty and meat was curling up at the ends, yoghurt was warm, the only safe bet was a packet of coco pops - but then there was no bowls! Shame as building looks lovely on the outside and grounds have lots of potential, but especially for now, I would say steer clear to avoid disappointment.

This was the worst hotel in which we had stayed while visiting Britain for many years. The outside appearance of the hotel is beautiful. The car park, owing to excessive rain, was a muddy bog as it was not paved. The interior has some elegant old furnishings but looks dated and highly neglected. Our room was in the attic and had only skylights with no regular windows. The beds were fairly comfortable. It was a cold day when we arrived - the skylights had been left open and the heating was not working. The staff eventually supplied a stand-up heater. There was no hot water in the bathroom, and showering was painful. The room did. It look clean - there was a proliferation of dust. We ate dinner in the restaurant the first night - the restaurant was cold, we were the only customers, and the food was mediocre. Full English breakfast in the morning was much better. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I did not make a formal complaint to the management as the attitude seemed to be that such conditions were par for the course for an older property. I was frankly surprised that the property had a license to be in business.

Used to be great . But now it’s horrendous and disgusting … dirty , tired , stains everywhere … horrible . If it wasn’t late I would have just turned round and walked out . Shame it used to be so good 20 years ago !!!

Worst Hotel I have ever stayed in.
Hairs in the bathroom on the floor, insects too! This hotel does not look anything like the photos and is in desperate need of repair. Not clean at all which surely is rule number 1 to get right, Reception staff were great which was the only saving grace.

Relaxing overnight stay
Great character left in the buildings , wonderful to see original features, need a bit of fresh paint here and there, staff very commendable, very peaceful. 2nd time we have stayed and did not disappoint, will stay again

Really poor
Booked an executive room which looked absolutely nothing like the photo on on the booking page. Everything is tired, old and doesn't feel clean.

Adequate for an overnight stop. Noise pollution from heating system was the only downside. Kitchen was closed, but was informed in advance, so it was fine

Expecting the worse after reading some other reviews but pleasantly surprised. Beautuful old building, our room had original beams. Ground great fior walking our dog, and the area immediately in front of hotel well maintained. Staff were lovely, very helpful. Booked in again on ti break our return trip from Yorkshire. Looking forward to it. The restaurant was clised fir evening meal, advise pre booking a meal at the Risley Park pub, virtually next door. Also great.

Wunderschön im Grünen gelegen. Charmante Einrichtung im alten Stil mit etwas Modernem aufgepeppt. Tapete könnte an manchen Stellen mal wieder angeklebt werden und etwas besser geputzt werden, aber wir haben uns trotzdem wohlgefühlt. Frühstück okay, Abendessen gibt es nicht, aber einen sehr guten Pub nur 3 Minuten zu Fuß entfernt. Parken ist kostenlos möglich, direkt auf dem Grundstück.

Poor show
The evening host was very welcoming and helpful however that’s the only praise I have. There are no rooms which can accommodate a wheelchair user comfortably, which was high on my priority list. The rooms were large but very dated. Windows were falling to bits and could not be closed securely. All the mattresses I checked I could tell you the exact gauge of spring used and what shape they were, they are well past their best and uncomfortable. The bathrooms were tired, functional but the significant mould around the enclosures was off putting. The hallways stank of weed and we’re not a pleasant place to be. I waited 20 minutes in the morning to speak to a member of staff however they were nowhere to be seen and another 3 guests were also in search of one for help.

Hotel could be lovely but very run down. Car park pitch black when I arrived. Didn’t see another person other than the receptionist. No restaurant. Told to eat breakfast away from hotel. Bedroom and bathroom desperately needed refurbishment. Didn’t feel safe as a lone traveller.

The property is desperate need of refurbishment which is a shame as it could be a really lovely hotel. The restaurant and bar were closed and we were informed on arrival that there would be no hot food available at breakfast. Breakfast consisted of toast or cornflakes. The room was a good size and was clean however it was cold as the window would not close and we were also therefore awoken in the early hours by another guest loading their car. We only saw one member of staff during our visit and he seemed to be doing everything! Overall it met our needs as a place to stay after a wedding but I wouldn't recommend staying here for any longer period of time!

In need of some care and attention
Lovely looking place from the picture on the outside but once you step into the guest area things go down hill. Room was poorly cleaned and certainly in need of tlc dead dried up spider in the bath, holes in the walls, cobwebs and dust everywhere.

This could be a first class hotel with some money spent restoring all the old features. Wonderful location and beautiful surroundings. Really spacious and clean rooms with all facilities that are needed and more. Staff are more than polite and helpful. They are also friendly, homely and cant do enough for you to resolve any problems. We had a extremely comfortable and enjoyable stay with you in August and will certainly be returning.

Third visit here, lovely old building and good location which is why I have been 3 times, but it is let down by neglect, there are issues with ceilings and general maintenance and the gardens could been lovely if a full time gardener employed

In it's day it would have been a beautiful building, but is declining fast. Very dirty, room, old bedding and towels. Smell of damp in room and bathroom. Needs a huge input of money to bring it back up to a minimum standard and sincerely hope that the owners do to preserve e what could be a stunning building.

The staff were great, only could have been in uniform or with name badges so they could be identified. Beautiful historic house but very badly maintained, confusing decor, dirty and neglected. The owners should be ashamed of themselves. Room was hot and stuffy and although there was a fan, this did not work, neither did the tv remote and reception limited. Lucky for us there was another room with patio doors which the staff kindly moved us to. Unorganised breakfast with lack of staff, no bacon, no beans, no orange, no white sugar.

Needs a complete renovation
Think it would have been a lovely place to stay 15 years ago as is a beautiful building and gardens but needs a complete make over. Damp musty smell in the room, whole place not that clean. We used it just as a bed to sleep in so spent no time in the room, if it was a nice weekend away we would have moved hotel. Staff were nice though.
