Great quiet confortable stay
Booked Thorpe Thewles Lodge for one night. I was contacted by telephone before my stay to confirm what time i would be checking in and asked if i required breakfast. I received a further text message with directions. I advised i would be arriving late evening to which there was no issue. The B&B is on a farm and up a rugged path. Its very dark and as i had a very heavy downpour on my arrival i missed the turnoff for the access path. This was pure fault of my own as the directions provided by text were accurate. Once i arrived i was greeted by John who was very welcoming. He showed me to my room and advised how i would be able to obtain a meal for the evening. The room was very nice, clean and had coffee making facilities, ironing board iron and fresh towels. The TV also has Netflix which is an added bonus. I had a lovely quiet comfortable stay and would recommend it to anyone.

Lovely light room
Our first impression was of a lovely light room with a picture window and well equipped. It was excellent to have an iron and board to freshen up clothes and the bed was really comfortable. However, it was very disappointing only to be able to get barely tepid water for a shower the next morning. That evening the water was really warm but again the following morning the water was barely tepid. Minor disappointments were that I was not tall enough to use the mirror, there was no bedside light on one side of the bed and no shelf for toiletries in the bathroom plus a very badly potholed track to the hotel. At least we had a good nights sleep!

Beautiful relaxing Place
The room we had was beautiful. Only 2 very small issues. 1. Self in ther bathroom to put toiletries on and a small table in the bedroom to put things onto apart from that I would recommend this place to anyone.

Great accommodation.
This B&B has the potential to be fantastic, very well decorated a home from home, stylish, yet comfy. Had the light outside of room 4 not been blasting through my curtains all night and humming, this would have been 5 out of 5.

Very relaxing night away
Lovely stay, friendly people. Only didnt get full marks for condition because in the middle of doing it up, I'm sure it will get full marks next time we stay. Room was lovely and freshly decorated. Courtesy call to make sure we knew how to get there.

Nice b and b
The b and b is lovely, breakfast was very nice and staff friendly. I shouldn't really complain as we did get this at a very reasonable price. I would only recommend to a friend if they could get it at the same sort of price. However room cleanliness wasn't brilliant, some of the bedlinen had rips and wasn't completely clean. The shower cubicle had a few hairs in it, the sink had a massive crack and if u tried putting anything on the shelf above the sink it fell straight of as the shelf was hanging on for dear life. The wooden box in the bathroom also fell apart if u went near it and there was no where to put your towls. I certainly would not have wanted to try and sleep there more than one night, as you could feel every single spring on the matress, very uncomfortable. U also could do with a pair of wellys, as soon as you stept out of the building the car park was very muddy.

Good except for...
I recently stayed at this hotel which was out of the beaten track that was not a problem as the area was very quite... However when entering the room we was faced with another occupant sleeping in the bed. The staff were not much help and told us to stay in two separate rooms.... I was then told in the morning that they would happily not charge me for the extra room I required as they had to put me in 2! I wouldn't stay here unless you are happy with being messed around on arrival!

Was NOT impressed
After a 4 hour drive we arrived at the lodge which was not easy to find, no one was there to greet us or or give us details about our room which we had booked. 28 minutes after waiting outside in the cold with our bags a local gentleman came to help and explained the owner doesn't live on site and might have left a key for our room in an envelope on a door .. This was not the case. Eventually the owner phoned me back ( after I made numerous calls and was about to find alternative accommodation ) I had NO apology or explanation just given a code for a door and told what room to go in... (What happened to the good old fashioned method of face to face greetings.. ?) After finally getting into the room which was adequate for the price you are paying I was annoyed to discover that the remote for the tv had no batteries in and there was still hair on the pillow from the person that had stayed in the room before us.... I would not stay at this lodge again nor recommend it to anyone I know ..

Noboby on site just a note on reception door to call for access code. Skylight window left open so bathroom was flooded as it had been raining. Would not recommend.

Just enough
This is one of the most difficulty "hotels" to find. One have to be virtually there to see the sign to the accommodation. The room I stayed in had no light switches to operate the lights from the bed. This mean getting out of bed to switch off the lights and then feel ones way around in the dark from then on. The descriptions I read made no mention of the location being on a working farm.

Lovely helpful people, with a lovely lodge. my only criticium is that the beds were a little uncomfortable & the bathroom needed a little repair. Never the less it was good value for money!

What you would expect from the price
Having stayed in room 2 the best room I might add I thought this place had charm and character the animals at the back are a lovely touch. The noise from room above not ideal but nevertheless can't be helped. Deffo stay here again

Good when you finally get there and get inside
Access to the hotel is confusing as you need to drive past the house for about 3 miles on the main road then travel via back roads to reach the lane way which has lots of pot holes. The area outside is very muddy. Reception is not occupied.

Thorpe Thewles Lodge in Stockton on Tees
I thouroughly enjoyed my stay at Thorpe Thewles Lodge. It was very good value for money in comparison to a Travelodge, etc. Room was warm, clean and comfortable and breakfast very palatable. Only drawbacks were the location, difficult to find and not very well sign posted. No one to meet you on arrival (envelope on the door with the door access code inside!!!!) suggest this is texted to visitors for security purposes. No bathroom accutrements; shampoo, shower, gel, etc albeit an aplogy was given, as they were awaiting delivery and no shaver point in bathroom. Again, after the event I was informed that an adapter plug was available. However, these small issues did not detract from a very pleasant stay

I found the description of the property misleading. The room we shared with our three children was nice, however the bathroom needed work, the site was on a small holding with un-finished buildings being renovated. Unfortunately we were above another bedroom and at 6 a.m. onwards we all had to endure the sounds of a very loved up couple which was totally inappropriate! (so beware the 5 bed room) with no sound proofing.

Thorpe Thewles Lodge was a bit hit and miss for me. The greeting was friendly and the room pleasant and clean and the breakfasts were excellent. Situated amongst farmland the B&B is quiet and relaxing. But opposite the B&B there are unfinished building work and outside it is all a little unfinished. Giving a time for breakfast the previous night is a good idea, as is ordering your breakfast in advance but this doesn't work if more than ten people want to eat at the same time because the dining room only caters for ten at a time. Having to wait for people to finish eating before sitting down was embarassing for those finishing their breakfast and for us turning up to eat at the time requested. This was then compounded by the owner going away and forgetting to pre-prepare our bills. Only after a series of telephone calls could the cleaner confirm our bill and let us pay. No warm water on the final morning to shower in one of the two rooms we booked was also not acceptable. These are only small concerns when actually the stay was comfortable and clean and overall good value for money but it could have been so much better.
