We were greeted by a large overflowing cigarette butt holder alongside the front steps and check-in took twenty minutes as the receptionist, despite being very courteous, was not capable of dealing with the five pairs of guests arriving at the check-in time with Fawlty Towers being referred to by one couple! Our room in the attic was not what was expected and unheated. The poorly fitting sash windows covered by curtains which most probably were new thirty years ago and not falling apart then were stuck partially open. The number for night service remained unanswered and the heating was not repaired as promised the following day. A fan heater had to be requested as none had been provided. The hot water eventually arrived in the en-suite basin after three-four minutes minimum of waiting. The young Scottish front of house gentleman at breakfast despite being courteous and very helpful struggled to cope with incorrect breakfast orders from kitchen staff despite pre-ordering the meals the previous evening. It makes little sense as to how that is possible? From our experience- which may well be different to others-the new owner of the Guest House has much to do in order to maintain its previous Reviewer ratings. We will return to Edinburgh as we enjoyed what this unique city has to offer and the very approachable and helpful locals. We will not, however, even consider this property. Expedia have not shown due diligence with reference to this listing
