This apartment was right there n the middle of it all and a straight walk up from the train station! It was clean and cozy for our family of four and a perfect respite from a hotel in the middle of our UK holiday.

Disappointed in quality
The pictures do not accurately reflect what we showed up to. The bathroom had what looked like mold and dirty. The shower flooded and lifted something gross we've never seen before, and the water was temperamental and either scolding hot/ice cold. The check-in to get the keys was not good. The key was not inside the box and we were locked out. We tried multiple phone numbers and sent an email, not one response. We got in after waiting an hour for someone to walkout. Also left inside was other peoples empty water bottles and wet rags. It was a great location along the Royal Mile but needs work or honest description.

Fantastic location. Alleyway was a little scary so when we first arrived we were dubious. The stairs were a nightmare to get up with luggage but the apartment was fabulous.

Had a brief problem with the water heater and heat that we didn’t find till late in the evening so we didn’t have any hot water that night. Luckily they helped us the next day and got us fixed right up

Great location
The apartment we stayed in was in a great location. It is close to the old town, and had a Sainsbury's and coffee shop downstairs. However, picking up the key and walking to the apartment wasn't the easiest with suitcases in tow. Would certainly recommend the apartment.

Not for the fainthearted - The Worst
DO NOT Rent From These People! (Silver Lining is the worst) First of all the place we booked was not the place featured in the ad. There are 11 flights of stairs and no lift. The apartment has issues. Most importantly the key retrieval process is absurd. In the ad the only address they give you turns out to be a closed office in which we had no way of knowing until we got there. We had to take a taxi with 3 children and 5 suitcases once we got dropped off we realized the office was closed with no forwarding information. After 2 hours of wasting 5 peoples time .…. I was able to meet the neighbor who stated that this happens to people all the time he gave me the afterhour’s phone was not answered immediately I had to call back 3 times. The guy who I spoke with on the phone was very flippant rude he insisted I did not read the check-in instructions properly. Little did he understand that I had no way to retrieve my emails there was no cell service. We had to take another taxi to the apartment. Regarding the apartment itself the shower handle was broken you could hardly turn on the water to take a shower. There was mold in the bathroom. The 11 flights of stairs were dirty, scuffed, with trash and beer bottles. The blinds fell off in one of the bedrooms, some of the windows would not stay opened it was very hot. The wood floors were worn gauged and scratched up. The dining room table was worn out with big chips of paint missing from the chairs bad bad bad

Great old town stay
This was a great choice for our family vacation. The location was wonderful, right near the grassmarket area. Many great pubs and shopping nearby. The checkin was easy. The apartment had everything we needed. People renting should be aware the apartment is on the top floor, which means the views were great, but there was a long climb up the stairs (Including luggage); it's about 5 floors. Good exercise, but not for people who are mobility impaired or have small children. We had teen and older kids so it was fine. It was a great base to explore the city.

Great Edinburgh location if you don't mind stairs!
We truly enjoyed our stay with Silver Lining Apartments. It was an easy self-check-in process, with a good amount of information. The apartment we stayed at (2-11 Cowgatehead) was perfect for a family of 5 with 3 separate bedrooms plus a good sized living room & kitchen. The wifi worked well also. Mostly, the location was perfect. We were just a couple blocks off the Royal Mile and right next to the Grassmarket area. The only minus about the apartment was that it was on the 5th floor with no elevators, so we had to walk up & down 5 flights of stairs everytime we went somewhere. It ended up being good exercise though :). As this was our first-ever visit to Edinburgh, it would have been helpful to have detailed directions to the apartment. We arrived via train from London, so used our phone's GPS to walk to the apartment, which was less than a mile from the station. But beware if you've not been to Edinburgh -- it's VERY hilly and can be challenging if you have heavy luggage or poor wheels!

Excellent location. Walking distance many restaurants etc. Royal mile is a 5 minute walk. Apartment is old though and standard a bit low. No lift so carrying luggage over the stairs a bit tough. Amenities were good. Would have been nice if items like a milk bottle, cereal, washing machine detergent is kept on complimentary basis. Value is small but would create a good effect

Not recommended
Unfortunately, this is not to be recommended. The state of the communal stairway is poor and dirty, with the apartment I stayed in being up 4 flights of stairs with no lift. The apartment itself smelled of stale bleach and the main bedroom was not separate from the seating/kitchen area (there was a translucent curtain, but half of this was missing). The area seems good when you look on a map, but is in an extremely noisy street where loud activities go on outside until the small hours. The one good thing is the amount of space in the apartment, but the standard of furnishing is not high. I strongly advise that you look elsewhere.

Great relaxing space in fabulous location
Great location. Appartment was lovely with a relaxing bright and sunny space to chill out away from the hustle and bustle. Given the central location it was relatively quiet and had all the facilities you need. The rooms were big and airy and I’d recommend. Was like a treasure hunt finding the key box - follow the instructions carefully!

部屋はとても快適でした。食器やカトラリー類がそろっており、部屋は明るく清潔でした。困った点は、駅から歩く道が急坂で、スーツケースを運ぶのに苦労したことと、鍵の場所を見つけるまでです。事前の案内に丁寧に書いてありましたが、狭い路地を入った事務室のドアを開けることになっており、見つけるまでクイズを解いているような気分でした。全体的には満足です。

Great location and accommodation on the Mile
The start was rough with Expedia not helpful as it mentioned extra fees but didn't say what for or how much$$$. Also, no address, only a promise to be 5 mins from Mile. As soon as I booked, undisclosed rates and terms appeared. Wouldn't let me cancel. In the end, place was awesome. Kind of hard to locate key pick up location on dark rainy 1st time to Edinburgh. Issues were poor communication. Only Edinburgh office hours and form emails.

A Hidden Treasure!
We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids. We got into town really late so it was difficult to find. We were a bit creeped out at first at the old spiral stone stairs but it ended up being one of our favorite parts of the building; the kids pretended we lived in a castle tower! Waking up to the kilt fabric curtains and adorable kitchen was such a comfort for us! We all had our own room which was nice; versus the typical studio hotel room. The apartment we had had half of a view of part of old town and just about every store and restaurant you could want/need on the trip. All around, this was a comfortable and secure home-away-from-home!

Great place with lots of room.
Loved it. My husband, daughter, & I enjoyed having such a large place. The location was great in the Grass Market area. We had 2 bedrooms, living room/dining, & kitchen. Even though we didn't cook, the refrig came in handy for soda & leftovers. You basically check yourself in & out, so there is no delay. Highly recommend Bow Street F2.

Edinburgh Quartermile
Got a flat near the University with a grocery & coffee shops just downstairs. Energy in the area during the day was great with the University just near by. Communicating with the staff via email & text was easy & efficient. They were very nice & helpful! Apartment was very clean. A wee bit worn but it had everything we needed! Soaps, laundry in room w/ detergent, small fridge, full kitchen. Only thing that is a concern--tub is a high step up, and could use some new caulking. Not great for old or short people but at least it was clean. Other than that apartment was great & close to lots of tourist attractions! Great stay!

The apartment I booked wasn't anywhere near where it showed on the location map, that was just the office. They made other arrangements for me that had easy access to the train but it was still quite a separation from my group. The apartment was nice (loved the big, tall ceilings) and I liked being able to experience something different than a hotel. It would be nice to have clear directions/information printed and available at the apartment: expectations, internet info, etc. It would also be nice to have a hair dryer available as most travelers aren't packing one and there was every other appliance available.

I think The place is good enough for that price. But I totally disappoint as I booked as 4 Star-my fault,did not recognize the price was for 2 nights. The "2nd bed room" is not real one. It's an added area above kitchen where adult can't stand straight. Room is clean. Very hard to get the key safe to pick up key in such strange dirty area as instruction.

Helt otroligt vilket läge och vilken lägenhet! Det låg så nära old town man kan komma, man klev bokstavligt talat ut direkt på Royal Mile. Det enda som vi märkte var att vi bara såg personal 1 gång under 5 dagar. Däremot så hänvisade de alltid till flera telefon nummer man kunde ringa ifall det var så att man fick problem eller ville fråga något. Lägenheten var jättestor med superfint kök och ett extra loft över köket där jag sov. Min morfar och bror delade på en stor dubbelsäng i ett rum bredvid. Det var ett komplett kök, det fanns badkar och tvättmaskin och torktumlare. Det enda som var lite konstigt var att de hade en varmvattenbredare i ett förrådsrum som lät ganska högt när man drog på vattnet. Det låg även en bar under lägenheterna som gjorde att morfar hade lite svårt att somna på fredag- och lördagskvällen. Utöver det var det helt perfekt! 5/5 allt som allt!

エディンバラ大学に近く静かなアパートメントでした。一階にスーパーマーケットがあるので、そこで食材を購入して調理できました。オーブンもレンジもあるので便利でした。エディンバラ駅からの移動経路によっては、何段もの階段を上り降りしなければならなくなるので注意が必要です。スーツケースのような大きな荷物を持っているときは、少し遠回りにみえてもフラットな道を選んだほうがいいということがあとでわかりました。

The place is really spacious and warm. We had a good time there. The only thing to improve is that their washing machine was broken down. It took us so much effort to wash the wet clothes and dry them.

No hot water
The flat was roomy and very homey. It was in a great location. It would have been an excellent experience except for the hot water, which was on a timer and the timer was messed up. No hot water in the mornings and very little hot water after 7 PM. I had to get up each morning at 0630 to activate the "boost" and keep "boosting" every hour until all showers were done. In the evenings if the hot water ran out I had to "boost" again and it took an hour for the hot water to build back up. After an hour the water was warm enough for a quick shower but it was just warm, not hot. We had to heat water on the hob the first night to warm up a bath for the kids before I figured out the system. We stopped by the offices the next morning to tell them the timer was messed up and nobody would let us in, despite repeatedly ringing the bell, until someone from the office in front of theirs opened the door. Finally spoke with someone and got them to understand that he timer was messed up. They kept repeating the "boost" instructions and wouldn't actually listen to me that the timer itself was skewed several hours forward until the fourth time I said it. They finally promised to send someone to look at it but never did. They really should tell their guests about the hot water challenges before arrival. It was obviously a recurring problem based on the "boost" instructions by the hot water heater and the numerous complaints in the guest book.

Well-located, but overpriced for condition
We wanted a central apartment for the Tattoo and to be able to walk to everything else. It was perfect for this as my husband and I are older and can only walk short distances. The agent was very accommodating and provided us with a cot so four of us could stay here. However, I had to keep contacting them to remind them that they had made an exception and there would be four of us staying there. It was a hassle. We paid a premium price as it was during the Tattoo: $450/night. That includes the cot which they charged us $160 for three days instead of their usual $120. The rooms were large, but I found the condition of the apartment wanting (see below) for the price we were paying. In the future I'd look into the Carllton Hotel across the street, a serviced hotel or Air B&B.

Great location!
This apartment was in the heart of the action, very near Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. I didn't realize when I booked, that we would be on the 5th floor without an elevator, but we managed. We also ran out of toilet paper. It was a bit tricky finding the apartment because of closes and bridges going over the street we wanted. We got there after wandering a bit with help from a local. The kitchen was equipped well for making breakfast, and it was easy to find a market nearby. We had a great stay and loved the location.

Very nice self-service apartments
Silver Lining rents out furnished apartments and so is not really a hotel. Once you have reserved the room, you get directions for retrieving the keys and the address of the apartment. Ours was wonderfully located just feet off of the Royal Mile. The apartment was large, comfortable, and clean. There is no housekeeping during your stay, though, so daily clean up is on you. We would definitely stay again.

Miscommunication with the staff, initial booking was 2/10, but managed to change to 4/6 upon email correspondence. However, another staff welcomed us and gave us 2/10 instead. We had to climb 4 flights of stairs everyday during our 2 nights stay.
