This spot is fine for the price conscious solo traveler or group of hikers/backpackers who just need a place to crash on their way into or out of Sequoia. It’s certainly one of the closest spots to the park entrance (a few miles away from more of the town restaurants/shops), but the rooms are old and carpeting leaves a lot to be desired. The shower also took 3 minutes to heat up, which forced me to start taking a cold shower, thinking heat wasn’t an option. That said, I slept great, probably because I was so exhausted. I was charged $5 more than the invoice from the 3rd party booking site - I had seen a review mentioning this, so it didn’t come as a shock.
So if you’re okay with all that, the River Inn is fine.
*Also, I’m not sure if it’s a violation of California law, but my room did not have a smoke detector - it looked like the wire was cut and it was removed. I’m not sure if there were any along the outside of the building either.
