What a fabulous hotel! As my Thursday, 6/29, departure from coastal DE was delayed, I called the hotel after 6 pm re: a late(r) arrival. Spoke with Maddy, who was very courteous and professional in explaining after-hours check-in (front desk is staffed up to 8 pm in this small, 'boutique' hotel). No problem! As I stopped a few times en route, and to eat, I arrived in Gettysburg around midnight. The Union is in the heart of town, easy to find.
Drove around to the ample (free) parking lot for guests behind the hotel, where I met the owners/proprietors Leslie and Andrew, who were doing upgrade work on their place to add a bar and breakfast room. They were more than kind, handing over my key and registration paper, and also helping me carry belongings up to my room (so no cart needed!).
The Union is so cool, clean, and comfortable. The bar and restaurant will be great additions. If I had arrived earlier, there are many excellent eating establishments in walking distance. I had lunch on Friday, 6/30, at the Lincoln Diner, just past the traffic circle. Nice set-up in my spacious third-floor room, with an historic Civil War focus. Had my morning coffee, juice, muffins at the kitchenette. Worked out well.
Maddy again assisted on check-out, so I could cart my stuff out front to a reserved parking space on the street. All told, great place, great staff, and I hope to return. A+!
