A very classy hotel with friendly helpful staff. Only down side was nearness to a rail crossing with bells ringing to close gates. This was a concern to my wife who is a light sleeper. However I still rate this hotel as excellent.

The location was great with onsite parking. The room was spotless with everything you needed. The staff and the service provided was excellent. Make sure you include the breakfast in your stay, it was magnificent!

I recommend Hotel Provincial and would stay there again. My room did not have a proper window -- just some shaded glass, which let some light through. Normally, that would be a deal breaker for me but the bed and bedding were so high quality and comfortable and the shower so powerful that it was a really nice one-night stay. (For a longer stay I might opt for a more expensive room type, which probably has actual windows). As I was there just overnight, I never saw anyone associated with the hotel. Check-in was done quickly and easily via a phone call and a lock box. (It would have been helpful if they had included the "area code" 03 on the sign at reception, which I needed to dial from my US phone). The main building is historical and attractive. I wish I had been there when the restaurant was open. It looked nice. The location is great. Right next to the train station and a short walk from the main historical center. Parking overnight is easy on the streets outside, though those spaces are metered during the day. The hotel itself has a parking lot, but it was unclear to me how to open the gate or whether there was a charge. Ballarat itself is also nice and interesting and worth a longer visit than I had time for. I hope to be back.

An oddly shaped room set out where the TV was mostly blocked from view in room 15. Limited snacks in mini bar. Very clean. Very comfortable. Beautiful decor in common area and corridors. Slightly plainer in room. Odd art work in room but beautiful throughout the hotel. Breakfast was 2/5.

Hotel was ok, but didn’t meet our expectations. The type of place that looks fine in photos, but misses the details of any good or reasonable hotel (even at lessor price points). Bathrooms weren’t super clean, lots of mould and paint chips and scuff marks throughout the room. You come to expect this in some hotels, but the rooms where surprisingly sparse which didn’t help you not notice these issues. Paying for larger room also seemed redundant in our case as the extra space served no extra purpose or facility. The room was a bed, chair, tv and minibar.. pretty standard and hardly a suite by any other hotels standards. The noise was also very noticeable. Earplugs are given, which don’t really solve it or are that comfortable to need to sleep with these. It’s not just the train you hear but conversations from neighbouring rooms and hallways. I live next to a main road so it’s not like we are overly sensitive to noise ourselves, however it still detracted from our stay/sleep. We had breakfast at Lola, food was ok (limited range and hard to go too wrong with) but the service had lots of issues for us. This hotel has many fantastic neighbouring eateries you can head to instead and we are already raving about all the food/service we had in Ballarat apart from this one. If this is on the cheaper side of accomodations when booking I think it be ok stay, for us it was at a premium above all others and thus in hindsight a poor value stay.

Beautifully renovated with a touch of class the service was excellent and the location was ideal. I didn't get a chance to eat in the restaurant but it looked very inviting.
