Friendly staff, Horrible parking situation…. Show up early to get a better chance of getting a spot. Other than that, it’s about location location location.

It's a pretty old hotel so there are things (like a heater/ac unit) that you won't get...at least in my room. Location is fabulous however.

Loved that this is right in old town Flagstaff! Walking distance to campus and many shops and restaurants. This an OLD motel but everything is in good condition and very comfortable. Loved that they have parking at the hotel! We will be back…

What I liked was its history and character, nearing 100yrs. old and all the stories to go with it (especially gripped by the ghost stories the staff can relate!) The desk managers were great, informative, helpful. Our room was one of the Humphrey Bogart rooms. God-awful decor! Black walls, black bedspreads and pillows. Dark and depressing! Beds were hard but wobbly (springs?) and very squeaky. The bedding had that musty, overly-used, old laundry smell. The street noise was bad late at night but earplugs helped. The smell of cigarettes that infused the room after 11pm, though, we could do nothing about. Not open the windows as it was freezing outside. The tiny toilet and shower were uncomfortable. For tall adults with joint issues, squatting down to a 24in toilet, esp. in the dark, was a dodgy proposition! The stairwell carpet was actually bare in places. This hotel desparetly needs some TLC. The other issue is guest parking. They have 12 spaces (most say for Compact Cars only) for 40 rooms. The worst musical chairs for a parking space you can imagine. It's pay parking at some distance if you don't snag one early on! All the staff were wonderful. Nothing bad to say there at all. And the town itself was charming and interesting. But the hotel is not offering what we expected for the price we paid.

Located in historic downtown Flagstaff, beautiful location but it is just one short block from the railway line which is VERY busy day and night with cargo trains which can be heard very clearly. If this bothers you stay elsewhere. If you can over look that and then this is a beautiful historic hotel to stay in.

I have stayed at the Monte Vista 4 times now. I love the history and the bar, but the rooms are dated and not clean. The insulation is terrible and you can hear your neighbors blowing their nose and taking a shower. The street noise is terrible and I heard every drunk "whoo hoo," until 2am. I want to continue to stay at the Monte Vista, but this will be my last stay, sadly.

I needed to cancel my reservation because there was no hotel property parking available. I called the hotel and they recommended that I either park in the street “pay to park” or in the public parking garage down the street for $35. They also noted that street parked vehicles needed to be moved before 2:00AM or be towed. I was not comfortable with either option.

Great Location. Hotel only has a small number of parking spots and the parking situation in downtown Flagstaff is horrible. The rates for parking are exploitive

This is a historic hotel in old town Flagstaff. From our 4th floor room we enjoy train after train rumbling by. The Lotus restaurant just next door has excellent sushi and Asian cuisine. We ordered take out to eat in our room and were disappointed to find no wasabi or ginger in or bag. It is an old hotel ..... our room, the Humphry Bogart room, has a small bathroom and shower and no mini fridge. Also the wifi does not work on the fourth floor so we used our phone hot spot.

We've stayed at the Monte Vista many times and have loved its charm. It's very clean and more comfortable than it looks. That being said, this time was a bummer. No hot water at all!! Morning or evening. Sat at the bar with the entrance saying "Cocktails" and watched 3 bartenders completely ignore us at 6:30pm on a Saturday evening. There were maybe 4 people sitting at the bar. They just ignored us while they stood around chatting for 15 minutes before we left. It was weird! It's not normally like that. Sunday morning I go down to the lobby for coffee and there is none. The guy at the desk says 5 min. Another group of people say they've already been waiting 8 minutes and it's been like this all morning. The coffee was transparent. You could see through it! The bar next to the lobby has coffee but by 10am they were only serving drinks. No coffee. I along with other guests couldn't understand why they wouldn't make coffee we could buy in the morning and at least have more than 1 pot out for guests if it was complementary? Eventually, the kid behind the desk started saying he'd make some more and just never did get up and make anymore. He just sat in front of his computer doing who knows what. We're all standing in the lobby in our pj's looking at eachother wondering how a hotel can't have coffee available to just purchase in the morning when it's 25• outside. Check in was fast and easy. The room was charming and comfortable. But we won't be back.

Dated hotel with lots of character!
Hotel has tons of charm and character - would always prefer this so some cookie cutter hotel chain. But for the price some of the amenities in the room were lacking - hairdryer barely worked and when brought to the attention of the front desk staff was pretty much ignored. Cocktail lounge in the lobby rocked!! But also, it rocked, so it can be pretty noisy.

There was no parking available and had to pay $30 for overnight public parking. The website shows nothing about no parking. The desk clerk had no idea about the parking situation. One could tell he did not want to be there. He was not friendly at all. The hotel had parties late into the night. We found trash and a box of condoms in the night stand as we were packing to leave do it make us wonder how clean the room really was….

Perfect location
We love staying in downtown Flagstaff and the Hotel Monte Vista is located tight in the middle of all the restaurants and shopping, so you can walk to everything. The hotel is very cool and historic, so you let things like, tiny showers and having the sink in the bedroom slide.

The front desk assistant was super sweet. We always stay there and the staff is mostly why. And because it’s haunted supposedly and my misses loves the thought of it. As long as the Monte Vista is in business we will stay there when visiting Flagstaff. Cheers.

The day we stayed at the hotel it was freezing cold and the room did not have a heater Pillows were disgusting. When I asked the staff why the rooms where so cold and there was not heating she responded “yeah! They are cold aren’t they”

The hotel was nostalgic and with the huanted history, it made for a great stay. The rooms are small, but they preserve the nostalgic feel of the 1920’s. Only complaint was parking. Definitely not enough parking and you can’t park in the street over night. Public parking can be costly for a multiple day stay. For two days we paid an extra 72.00 just to park. If the parking could be better situated, I would have given 5 stars.

The only reason this property isn't getting one star is because the location was fantastic and I actually like the appearance of the hotel the service was awful. I won't be returning.
