Nice and close to beautiful Lake Superior. Room was comfortable. The baseboards had paint splotches on them from when wall was painted. The tub caulking was dirty yellow . No microwave.

Easiest and the fastest check in ever. Quiet location, slept great and good water pressure. This is an older property that needs renovations but still comfortable at a good price. This was my second stay and will go back.

Nice and quiet. They allow dogs in the wing with the king beds - again, v. nice. The TV was good - lots of choice. They were one of the least expensive motels in the area. However, they were expensive for the facilities - the room and motel were in some state of disrepair with non-functional electrical sockets, tatty lamps, and motel sign falling apart. There was trash lying on the property. There were no coffeemakers in the rooms. The continental breakfast was okay in a pinch and thank goodness they had coffee at breakfast. No cups in the room for water. The rooms were typical motel size with drive up to the door. The bathroom was quite roomy and adequate. There were trash receptacles outside and a bit of grass to let one's dog do her business. I enjoyed my stay and the Aspen Inn was perfectly adequate. However - I think more than $400 for three nights in off-season was a bit much given the aforementioned.

There were quite a few bugs in the room (not bed bugs). There was also a door next to the bathroom that we believed was a closet, but when opened it led to what looked like a crawl space underneath the room. I’m guessing that’s where all the bugs were coming from but it felt a little bit unsafe as we were not willing to check the crawl space area and someone could have been hiding down there. Other than that, the room was good enough for the price paid.

We stayed at the Aspen Inn at the beginning of April. The staff was friendly and helpful. It is a great place if you just need to sleep and clean up. We spent most of our vacation hiking so this was a great option and price for us. The thermostat was a little finicky for us, but the room had a box fan supplied which worked great.

No microwave in the room. Bathroom fan wasn't working, spa was down and the room smelled bad.

We do not offer microwaves as an amenity. We do however have a microwave in our entrance for anyone to use when our lobby is closed. We are working on getting our spa up & running. Housekeeping issues will be addressed with staff. Thank you for your review!

Just fine for a 1 night stay!
You get what you pay for. It was only for 1 night during an off-season weekend evening. The hot tub wasn’t working so they gave us a pool pass to their sister property a mile up the road. This hotel could be so much better if they just fixed it & updated it a little more. The mattress was very bouncy (I like a firm bed) and the room was a little smelly. Again, the best but not the worst. About what you’d expect for $75/night.

This property is so disgusting, dirty and smelled sooooooo bad. Mold in bathroom, the whole room was dirty, hair, moldy and the bed was the worst we ever slept on in our lives and we are not picky, it was so bad I lifted the sheets to see what we were laying on and the very very old cheap mattress was disgusting with stains all over. I was scared of bed bugs but didn’t get bit up surprisingly!!! The continental breakfast is such a joke, there was NOTHING and what they had poptarts and cereal boxes were old and stale. Absolutely, not worth the price. We would not stay here again if they paid us to. We stay in Grand Marais or the surrounding area every fall. Advice… pay the extra for a clean hotel!!!!

We have much more for breakfast than cereal and poptarts, you just have to ask the front desk for things like burritos that are advertised on the wall.

Disappointing
I've stayed here several times before and enjoyed my stay but this time was different. The room was more run down, the heat was not on and it was chilly at night, the neighbors were loud and the bed and pillows were super uncomfortable and need replacing. Also the front desk staff were not very friendly or helpful. I absolutely love Grand Marais and this really is the only financially feasible lodging available in my budget range so I'm hopeful that they make some improvements so we can once again enjoy our stay with them.

The room itself was clean. The staff friendly. The breakfast area was adequate and was available all day until they closed. The heat/air conditioner unit was working minimally. Thankfully there was a large box fan to use to move the air around. The exterior was in need of repair with ripped screens, a broken door and parking and driveway in need of new surfacing. For the price that I paid I would have expected better. This place was selected because other places were already booked and I really wanted to go this weekend. I would not recommend this motel and I will not use them again.
