Thanks so much for your kind review. It was truly a pleasure to meet you. Regarding the parking, It is indeed street parking and we purchase a parking permit for guests at our expense. Third Party Sites don't give us the ability to write free form text explaining things like parking thoroughly but we try to be as clear as we are able. We are only able to check boxes for certain categories on third party sites.We always email guests after they book to ensure they do understand the parking situation and most guests have plenty of time to consider if it is right for them.As you booked the same day you were arriving it unfortunately didn't leave the time for you to have lots of advanced notice so we do understand why you felt this way, but most guests do understand the parking station well in advance of their arrival and well before they have committed to the reservation.We do everything we can to ensure all guests are well informed as our goal is always to ensure our guests are happy. Thanks for taking the time to write the review. We 100% agree about avoiding the area of the Church, which is two blocks away at Dundas and Sherbourne. We do our best to advise all of our guests to simply skip walking along Dundas Street as there is a Homeless Shelter there and it can make some feel uncomfortable to see many Homeless hanging out on the corner. Sadly there is a big Homeless Issue in Toronto (a primary focus of the Mayoral Campaign that concluded three days ago) and we do hope the new Mayor will help these primarily harmless but homeless individuals get the assistance they so desperately need. Until then, unfortunately if you want to be in the Central Core of Downtown Toronto, avoiding the homeless is all but impossible.We must admit we messed up with the air conditioning. As you say, the nights were quite cool so we turned the air off, but obviously it got stuffy in your room. We will ensure we do not make that mistake again.Our area of Cabbagetown is North America's largest Enclave of Victorian style homes and when built many did have narrow staircases. We aren't quite sure how a staircase being a bit narrower contributed to a fall but it really doesn't matter. We are just sorry to hear you had a fall! It hasn't happened before in the 22 years we have been operating and we hope it never happens to anyone else. We do hope that overall you enjoyed your time in Toronto and wish you much happiness in the future.

Hello Ali. Thank you for your feedback. Particularly the comment on the bed. It is actually the first time we have heard of a concern about the bed in that room, but when we discussed it we did realize it is probably time for new mattresses so we went out and bought new mattresses for all of the rooms today! Unfortunately it is true there are a lot of homeless people in Downtown Toronto, You won't see it so much around the CN tower etc., but that is not where the houses are and consequently not where the B&Bs are (and in our opinion quote removed from the core of Downtown). It is something that all B&Bs downtown struggle with. The good news is that nothing of significance really happens and in 18 years of running the B&B nothing has ever happened to a guest. Generally as long as one avoids the Dundas and Sherbourne area you will avoid most of it, and it is just as easy to walk up Gerrard street to the centre of Downtown instead of walking up Dundas Street.

It was such a pleasure having you stay with us Christiane! We are secretly hoping we get a cancellation so that we have a room available for you on the dates you are coming back to Toronto in November. :-)

The Retreat Room is an interesting situation as it is indeed in the basement, and consequently offered at a lower nightly rate than our other rooms. It had been renovated and is actually our most popular room for returning guests as they say they like the fact that it is the only room on that level, but we do understand that some guests would simply prefer not to be on the basement level. It is completely understandable. Hopefully the next time you stay we will have a room available on the second floor for you. :-)

Hi and thank you for the great rating! We don't disagree with your comment regarding the homeless as, unfortunately, it is an issue the downtown core is struggling with. Although we have never had a homeless person harm a soul in our 18 years of running the B&B there are indeed far too many homeless in the core of Toronto. We don't know of a B&B as close to the central core as us where a similar situation won't exist, however. Unfortunately it is part of downtown neighbourhood life where housing exists in the core. On a positive note the city is in the process of negotiating a lease to relocate the Homeless Shelter located closest to us to a newer, larger, location which will be further away (good for us) and a better set-up for the homeless. We want all of our guests to be happy and if seeing homeless people is something a guest doesn't wish to experience, we would suggest looking on the West side of the city near the CN Tower area...but that isn't "house" territory so you will find mostly hotels in that area. We try our hardest to be one of the best B&B's located close to the central core of the city...but being close to the central core of the city does not come without the realities of a major city.

Thanks you so much for your excellent rating on our B&B! We are so glad you liked it here. We do understand, and assume, by stating "not so close to attraction, you mean places like the CN Tower. It is true it is about a 45 minute walk away (easy by transit but still a long walk). We do think its important to communicate, however, that as far as we are aware we are one of the closest B&B's to the corner of Yonge and Dundas, were the Eaton Centre is located (if not the closest). It is a 10-15 minute walk depending on walking speed, and is widely considered to be the central corner of downtown. Guests would be hard pressed to find a closer B&B to the centre of the city. Having said that, if a guest truly wants to be on the CN Tower side of things (which is further from downtown than us) there are options out that way but there aren't really any houses, which means there isn't much in the way of a B&B, so a Hotel might be a better option. It's just a reality of the way Toronto is laid out. B&B's tend to be slightly East of Yonge Street and the CN Tower etc is quite a distance West of Yonge Street. At the end of the day I guess,"close to attraction" depends oil which attractions in the city you wish to see.

When started this B&B 18 years ago we were just "testing the waters" as we needed a little extra income. While we truly can appreciate that not everyone is comfortable in the centre a large multicultural city, it is such a pity you didn't leave the B&B to experience the vast array of different ethnic restaurants in the area. We believe it is truly a phenomenal area with so much to offer only 4 stoplights from the central core of downtown but yes...like any major city, when you are in the thick of it all you will see street people.
