I’m pleased to say that we do offer free car parking to our guests (subject to availability) something that many other accommodation providers can not offer. The parking system works well with a little help from our guests. What's my driving like? Well as a government licensed Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor, I’d say better than most!

Hello Denis and thank you for your review, we’re pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. We’ve been busy over the 2017/18 winter period and one of the changes made was to replace the beds in all our our large double rooms. In fact we’ve ordered them with an extra three inches of hight over and above a standard divan. These have been well received, especially by those who are elderly or have walking difficulties. So for higher than average beds please be sure to book our large or standard size rooms, i.e. rooms 2, 4, 8 or 10. Thank you once again.

Hello Allan C, we would have loved to give a more meaningful and constructive reply to this review but the fact is we have no record of anyone under the name of Allan C ever staying with us! We have made repeated and thorough checks to that end but to no avail. We engaged there services of other concerned parties but they just proved to be unhelpful and obstructive. We’re glad you liked your room but if there were problems with the shower then why didn’t you tell us during your stay – that’s if you ever did stay with us !!

A big thank you to this reviewer and to all those who have taken the time and trouble to post a few kind words regarding their stay at the Richmond B&B. We were very pleased you had a good stay with us. There are a few points we’d like to place in context in respect to this review. Firstly you did stay with us during late June 2017, a June that had experienced temperatures not seen, even in the south of England, since the legendary summer heat of 1976. Temperatures were recorded in excess of 34 degrees Celsius! During our room refit of the least two years we had large opening windows fitted to aid the air flow at night. Guests commented on these as being very welcome together with the large floor standing fans that are supplied in our standard and large rooms, especially when temperatures were still regarded as as being ‘sticky’ at night. We can’t think of anyone who would put their heating on under these circumstances. During a room service we did notice that towels were placed over radiators, presumably for drying between changes. We did consider this a little odd when all of our rooms are equipped with new electric heated towel rails in the shower rooms for that very purpose. Should it become necessary to add a little heat to the shower room then all our shower rooms have 2000 kilowatt electric down-flow heaters which are independent of the central heating system, any guests may turn on at any time. If unsure as to their use or operation then guests have only to ask and we’d be happy to help. It’s a pity you didn’t raise these points during your stay, why not tell us when you’re here so we may address any points? The comment on ‘out side food’ is not exactly accurate. We ask guests not to bring ‘takeaway’ food in the building. We have to be considerate to others and items such as fish and chips, curry's and kebabs can leave unpleasant odours behind and, if spilt onto bedding or carpets, cause a hefty cleaning bill or ruin items altogether. Food items such as crisps, biscuits and sandwiches that do not cause problems are acceptable. It’s also worth noting that there are many excellent eating establishments in the immediate Shanklin area ( 50 +) where you can enjoy a variety of foods with some lovely vistas. One of the many reasons so many people visit the town and choose to stay at the Richmond. Thank you again.. The Richmond B&B

Hello Jean, thank you for taking the time to write a review. A few points that we must comment on - firstly the ‘small room’ remark. We have, in fact, a number of double rooms in our home. For ease we class them as small, medium and large. Due to naming convention restrictions within Expedia they are listed as small, standard and superior, but I think you get the gist. The price of the room is reflected in this and is clearly displayed on the Expedia site. We think it’s only fair and reasonable that there has to be a price differential as you get in all other walks of life with the supply of goods or services. You booked on line with us any it was you who chose the small room, so when booking we urge our guests not to just look at the price but also to what accommodation suits their requirements. For a modest price increase you could booked a room that was five times a big! But that was your choice. If you’d considered the room to be unsuitable then we are surprised that you decided not to ask us for an alternative - why ever not? Incidently the room you stayed in is our most popular as we get many walkers who stay with us for only a short time and by definition travel light. We probably need to add that the time in which we serve breakfast is not the time that we expect to eat it in. We mealy ask guests to come down and take a seat in the given times so that we may serve a hot and freshly cooked meal. The breakfast room is open well after the serving time so that you may enjoy your food. Although a cooked breakfast is included in the cost of your stay, it is not compulsory, so you may enjoy a lie in if required.
