Not value for money , reasonable location
The location is reasonably good you can walk to most places, the station is also walkable, there’s a small supermarket and a good bakery just behind the hotel. The hotel is in need of refurbishment specially the room furniture and most definitely the rooms and communal areas carpets. Our bathroom had been refurbished, however the toilet seat was very high , so not suitable for small children and very few toiletries. Four nights and our bedding wasn’t changed this was very disappointing.The worst thing was the air con , very noisy and you could barely notice it, there were 2 fans already in the 2 rooms so we had to manage with them but very impractical. The staff are pleasing. Overall the hotel is not value for money

We had a wonderful stay at Gounod, mainly because of the very helpful and friendly staff - a huge thanks especially to Julliana and Fareed. The Hotel is perfectly located - in a quiet space close to all the shopping, dining and the beaches. We also visited the sister hotel's Splendid rooftop pool - which had an awesome view. And would recommend all guests to visit at least once.

Horrible!
Aircondition wasn’t working and the air in the room made my throat ich and made me cough. The windows wouldn’t even shut - and it was too hot. The water from the tap was filthy - even though I let it run for 10 minutes. The hotel seemed to fall apart. If you think you’re getting what the pictures show - you’re not! Even the first picture which they advertise with is from Splendid hotel(this hotel is amazing). We went to the reception to change the room and the first time it was fine, but the room was even worse than before. It had stains on the pillow cases and even dirtier water - the receptionist said that you had to run the water for 20 minutes?? I did for 10 - didn’t get better. Couldn’t stay here so we wanted to cancel the booking and get our money back. She said to tell Hotels.com that SHE SAID it’s fine but REFUSED to write us an email confirming that - and said that «they dont do that”. Everywhere else it’s common practice to send confirmation on the agreement per email. Then she just walked away laughing sarcastically and cursing in French. We were finally saved by a super nice receptionist from Splendid hotel that happened to be there and we went there. STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TO STAY AWAY. The pictures show the real state of this hotel and it’s rooms.

Misleading photos of Hotel
The photos of the pool and bar are not for the Gounod, they are actually for the Hotel next door. Do not expect these facilities at the Gounod. Very disappointed.

Shambles of a stay
Terrible stay. After hours of travelling was told in hotel that there was NO room for us and we had to go to another hotel. This hotel Carlton had no bar, restaurant, pool or even coffee making facilities in room We feel cheated, let down and conned by all at Hotel .com as you told us on Saturday night you would respond, we are still waiting. Our holiday has been ruined by your greed and ineptitude. This matter has to be taken seriously by you as it is not the first time your company had done this

Nice charm and character
The Gounod was an interesting hotel with a lot of character. I enjoyed the art deco feel of it however, the standard room was extremely small and not overly comfortable. Luckily I like soft beds! The bed was extremely soft, but not very supportive. We did have a tiny balcony so that helped us to be able to spread out a little and get some air. The condition of the room was very old and tired. It definitely needed freshening up. Funnily though, it had a renovated bathroom. On the other hand, the staff were great, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also very good - tasty with good variety and also hot food available. The pool at the Splendid (sister hotel) was available to us, as was the rooftop bar there. It was good to have this option although the pool was underwhelming and not ready to use until later in the mornings. If staying at the Gounod or Splendid there is a fantastic Italian and pizza restaurant in Rue Gounod on the same side as the hotels called Pizza D'Or. Just walk back towards the Nice Ville Station. We ate there every night as the food was delicious and so reasonably-priced!

Bad hotel in good location
The pool in the pictures are actually in the hotel next to this one. This hotel is not in as good standard as the price and the pictures suggest. Bad value for money. Also bad wifi. Good location though.
