Location - the hotel is located next to the sea in Cades bay. Disappointingly there is no beach. You need to walk over dead coral, sea grass and sea urchins to get to somewhere you can swim Bring reef shoes with you if you want to swim, as you may not be able to get your size on the island. The hotel is surrounded by pretty, well kept gardens.
The hotel is on the local bus route Number 22 from St John’s which passes Jolly Harbour, Darkwood beach and Turners beach. These beaches are about 10 minutes away on the bus, which is inexpensive.
We were put in a street view room overlooking houses even though the hotel was empty. There is a communal seating area facing the sea so we sat there rather than sitting facing the road.
The room was clean, spacious and had a ceiling fan (no air conditioning). The cooking facilities consisted of a fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and a single electric ring. Unless you have a car the self catering is essential as there is only one restaurant in Urlings (Chappy’s) which is reasonably priced and a takeaway serving pizza and local food at around EC$15. There are 3 local shops within 15-20 minutes walk and a lady who sells fruit next to the school.
There was plenty of hot water, good wi fi, international TV channels, and some nice touches like fresh flowers on the table. The staff were friendly.
Tip :- bring soap as none was provided (washing up liquid was provided).
Note:- The road down to the hotel is un-paved
