The hotel is ideally situated for visiting the island by car and on arrival it is very impressive, being set in extensive gardens behind locked gates. It is very secure and all Covid precautions were taken.
However, our room was less impressive - it was small and dark. The window looked straight out onto a stone wall and let in little natural light. The lighting in the bathroom was particularly poor.
The “shabby chic” furniture was cheap and flimsy, as well as being badly arranged - better use could have been made of the space, so that the television didn’t have to be perched high on the wardrobe, and such a small room hardly needed 3 large mirrors.
The ceiling fan only worked when the light was on, which meant we had to use the A/C on warm nights. It was possible to turn off the light and leave the fan on, but we would have had to stand on the bed to reach it, which we considered unsafe.
We were disappointed not be given the opportunity to upgrade, given the low occupancy rate at the time of our visit. We would willingly have paid a little more for more light and space.
When we did have neighbours, we found that the soundproofing was not very good.
On the positive side, breakfast was very good with a lot of good quality fruit. The staff were friendly and helpful. The pool area was attractive, though the peace and quiet were rather spoiled by the jazz music which played from dawn till dusk, not loud, but audible enough to be irritating.
