Hi, and I'm sorry you had issues. If you had contacted me during your 4-night stay I could have solved the issue with both the fridge and the tv on your first day. When we have storms and get surges, the channels can go out. All that is needed to fix it is for me to do a channel find and it would have picked up more channel reception. As for the fridge, it may have been turned down by a previous guest, otherwise it may be broken, something I would definately like to know about. I could have switched it out for you. I keep a working fridge in my storage area in the event this happens. However, if you don't tell me about it, I can't fix it. You were there several days, I could have solved it the first day for you and then you wouldn't have had a bad review. But thank you for letting me know, as you can see by the mostly positive reviews, that we take great care of our property to provide positive experiences, so I will make sure it's all handled.

This review is more about what you thought of SW Florida, than your stay with us. It doesn't sound like you enjoyed SW FL, very much. No-see-ums are a way of life here. They are tiny bugs that come out at dusk and dawn and bite like mosquitos. Skin-so-soft works the best, regular bug spray doesn't work much at all. I can't control the environment in Florida, or the traffic during busy season, which is January, February, and March, but you can control the traffic noise by booking a waterside room rather than a streetside room, which sits on the busiest street in Matlacha, during the busiest season for our area. If you have to choose a streetside room, you might want to visit during summer months, although the bugs are fierce in summer months, it is not busy season and the traffic noise is much less.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. Right after you checked out, we closed our property to install a mini-split system and remove the wall units for air conditioners. We have closed up the wall and insulated them. We are hoping between that and the insulated windows, that it will help to silence noise from outside.

Hi, I'm sorry the air conditioner in your streetside room didn't work properly, and I couldn't move you to another room because we were booked out. However, I did refund your entire stay, offer a free night in a waterside room if you ever decide to stay with us again, and I explained that we are getting a new mini-split system at the end of the month, and removing all window units so this won't happen again. Although things breaking are out of my control, how we respond to these things is well within our control, and I responded properly, and did my best to make things right. You also have control how you respond to inconveniences, and leaving a 2 out of 5, rather than leaving an honest review, explaining what happened and how I handled it isn't helpful, and just a weak way of trying to get even for something I had no control over, but made an honest effort to rectify.

I'm sorry but EVERYONE charges a cleaning fee. I did not for a long time, but I started over a year ago. It is posted that if you do your dishes it will help keep our cleaning costs down and allow me to continue having the lowest cleaning fee in the industry for my area. The only time I do not charge a cleaning fee is if there is a one day stay. You booked a one day stay, but asked to come in a half day early, which is more than a one day stay and although I gave you the half day for free, a cleaning fee was charged. It was only $27.88, which is half of what my normal cleaning fee is, which is $40. So I gave you a discount on the cleaning fee, and gave you extra half day for free. You are welcome.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm sorry we couldn't move you to a waterside. We are super booked out in February, so you would need to book a waterfront in advance for Feb and March. Plus they are a 2-day minimum during season.

Hi I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your room. Street side rooms are noisy at busy season, best to stay on the water side. Street side rooms are not recommended for longer stays. If you stay in the historic district you are going to be staying in an old building, nothing we can do about that. Although it is not at all deteriorated. We just installed new cabinets and new countertops in November. The hardwood floors were just refinished, the sheets, towels and shower curtains were just replaced so brand new. The furniture was just upgraded, the new recliner placed in December because we listen to our guests and had many suggestions that a recliner would be more comfortable. The rug is only 8 months old, the oldest pieces of furniture in that stainless steel fridge and the smart tv, which are two years old. We painted the globe over the light to match the palm tree murals on the walls and unfortunately, it left the room darker, which is why we put the new lamp in there. Even the kitchen table and chairs are new, just placed two weeks ago. We don't let anything deteriorate, we take great pride in our establishment. It belonged to my parents before me, I purchased it in 2016 from my Dad after my Mom passed away. We have rebuilt both of our back decks, this past summer, we are likely replacing the sea wall cap over this summer and then we will be rebuilding the deck it's attached to. We do our best to keep our prices reasonable but will be increasing our rates due to all the upgrades, so I'm not really sure what you're referring to when you say things were deteriorated. The rooms are not relatively clean, they are sparkling clean as I clean them myself and get rave reviews for my efforts. I think you were just annoyed by the road noise, which is something I have zero control over. Sorry for your troubles.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. All street side rooms on Pine Island Rd are on the road. If street noise is going to bother you, might be a good idea to pay the extra money for a waterside room, or don't book during our busiest time of year when there is a constant stream of cars going by. During summer months the road is quiet. In my room description it does state that we do not have cable, that we have antennae for cbs, nbc, and abc. You also had a smart tv in your room, we subscribe to commercial free Hulu Plus, and you can watch Netflix, and Amazon as well. If you were coming to watch tv, you can book our main cottage, which also has cable as well as the options a smart tv offers. Our bedding is upgraded constantly as they get ruined by sunscreen, ect, so it is anything but old, same with the towels. We pride ourselves on cleanliness, we wash EVERYTHING, after EACH visit. It is part of our mission, which is to provide a room that is clean and comfortable, that included the bath mat and comforter. I get rave reviews on how sparkling clean my rooms are. I personally cleaned the room you stayed in. I know the bath mat was washed because I washed. In the future, it would be helpful if you would bring these concerns to me, my number is provided in each room and I'm always on sight. I recommend you come back in a slower season and book our main cottage, then you can be off the road and watch cable and have all the options of a smart tv.

Hi and thank you for your review. Yes if you are bothered by road noise, you should definitely book on the water side, rather than a streetside. As for it being outdated, we are located in the historic district of Matlacha. Everything is outdated here and meant to be. But our rooms are anything but outdated. I love to paint furniture, so I find individual pieces that grab my attention and paint it to match the decor, which fits right into this art community. I don't like furniture sets, how boring! The room you stayed in has a brand new mattress, it's only 6 months old. We just installed some new cabinets, haven't even stained them yet, a brand new countertop, new shower fixtures, and new paint on the walls. We are constantly updating things as they get broken. We used to have gas stoves in each room but took them out after we had a gas leak, we have replaced them with large convection ovens and two burner cooktops for your safety. This is Matlacha, known for its art, color and quirkiness, not luxury. If you are looking for a four star hotel, please keep going. There is a luxury lodge just up the road, where you can stay in a closet with no view for double the price, but it's 4 star and I bet the furniture all matches.
