The reception area looks very grand with a big chandelier and marble floors, but behind this facade the hotel is very tired and dated. The rooms are big, but the smell of stale cigarettes is everywhere. The fridge did not work, and I had to hold the shower over my head as the fixing was too low. I had to change rooms on the first night as the traffic noise was unbearable. None of the staff speak English and the breakfast is purely Chinese. The pool is disgusting, full of mould and I imagine the water is not clean (I didn’t risk It). I asked to use the Gym, but was told it was not open! When I checked out they charged me 20 RMB for the toothbrush and comb set that I had assumed was complimentary! The area is very seedy and as lone, female, business traveller I felt quite vulnerable . However, metro is nearby and Starbucks over the road. My advice to anyone travelling to Shenzhen is to stay in the Coco Park area. The hotels and restaurants here cater for European travellers . The Golden Lustre needs a full facelift and English speaking staff. I would not recommend.
