Property is lovely room was awful worst room we have ever had at any hotel , no hot water dirty room ripped curtains paint all over the carpet , tiles falling off in the bathroom and stuck in the attic disgusting!!

Christmas weekend
Very helpful receptionist, had to change rooms due to excessive heating and the radiator couldn’t be turned off or even adjusted. 2nd room ok for temperature but the bed was very uncomfortable. Good situation in centre of Battle, all hotel was very clean and quiet.

There was little to like. The building has character with interesting features, like the ornate circular staircase and beams, and the ceilings are very low, glad I'm not 6'5! The price was very reasonable.

Very nice for the price. Something didn’t work but they fixed it. Cold water in the bathroom faucet was very hard to work.

Fine for budget hotel. Easy to find and good parking. Friendly staff. Room was very cold and thermostat didn’t seem to work, and tv didn’t connect to main channels due to signal issues.

The property was well sited for visiting the Abbey but car park very tight, the window to our room leaked through rotten wood and did not shut (someone had tried a fix with sealant), someone had used the toilet brush because it was clearly visible on the brush, bed not great and pillows were slightly thicker than sheets, bath towels were nice and soft but no hand towel included.

We booked the George for the Battle of Hastings weekend. It was quite last minute so we were pleased to find a room for a reasonable price. There might have been a reason why... The good: the location is great, a minute from the battle site and abbey and in a great spot on the high street close to everything. The bad: it's extremely budget. We were on the top floor up a very steep staircase – I don't recall seeing anything about accessibility when booking. Stair carpet isn't really a dealbreaker for me usually but it was absolutely filthy! Room itself was large but full of budget creaky IKEA furniture and it smelt terrible. Cheap towels, pillows and duvet. We didn't have water but after it was looked it, there was enough of a trickle to brush your teeth – just! No service to speak of – just a mobile number to call on arrival (which by the way, is round the back of the car park not through the restaurant!) As others have said, no fire escape info, no secure locks or peep hole and paper-thin walls. No food either – we went to the cafe at the end of the high street and can highly recommend that! We only stayed for a night and were in the room for probably about 12 hours max. The price we paid was a bargain and we were grateful to be able to drop our bags early, so I can't judge too harshly, but I wouldn't stay here again and would be unlikely to recommend it. If accessibility is a concern, this hotel would not be suitable.

We enjoyed our night at the hotel, parking was very limited in the area behind the hotel so would have appreciated knowing that beforehand. But otherwise it was a lovely quirky hotel to stay in.

I have used this hotel on many occasions over the years and it has steadily gone down hill over that period. Major refurbishment is needed as the whole place is now tired and in need of TLC. The staff were friendly enough, but with no bar or restaurant for meals or breakfast there is a need for some investment. The site is positioned well and has only limited competition.....

The look of the bed was nice, however very dusty around the headboard and the pillows are wafer thin. On arrival we were told that are bedroom door is unable to lock from the outside, you can only lock it from the inside, so when going out, the room was not secure. The lights on the bed do not work, and not even wired in. On booking, checkout is for 11am, however gentleman on reception said checkout is 10am as they have contractors coming in to hotel. Battle has a nice quaint high street.

We loved it, but will you?
If you are the sort to pick fault then dont go. If you find stairs difficult dont go unless there is a lift I didnt know about.The room we had, had any number of faults to complain about. The room has been renovated by a DIYer but it had every thing we needed including biscuits and Oh my god what a building, the staircase was an absolute joy and the room was spacious with 10ft ceilings.. The hotel is in the middle of Battle and currently having a restaurant kitted out downstairs, looks like it will be Italian food. Every thing is on the door step; pubs, shops, food, walks and sites to visit. Best of all it was an excellent price, could accommadate three adults in the room easily and available. Parking was free but if you are arriving up hill, take a wide sweep as the entrance is narrow. Thank you to all especially the reception who had the politest helpful person.

No hot water in first room. Mould and mildew in tile grout. Only air con were noisy fans that had to stay on all night as windows painted shut. No one ever on reception, you always have to call a mobile number to receive any service. No restaurant on site, facilities very basic for the high price.

Condition of room
Room was clean and comfortable. However, light above basin did not work, nor did soap dispenser by basin. Shouldn’t be difficult to have these checked before releasing room!

I had a request to be able to check in s bit earlier than the 3pm because I had a wedding to attend. The staff were very helpful and prioritised cleaning my room so then this could be achieved. The staff was very polite and helpful. I like the lovely surrounding. I souks happily stay again.

Immaculately clean, very friendly and helpful staff, comfy bed, private parking. Ok the bathroom facilities were a little tired but the shower was powerful and hot - so no complaints here. Good value for money. Great for a short stay in Battle.

Couldn't lock the door, all furniture chipped, ceilings stained, shower incedibly high and small with damaged doors and taps. Couldn't change the temperature. Entrance way grubby, generally smelt like cat litter. Completely overpriced. Only nice thing about this hotel was the kind man on reception. Definitely won't be returning. Really disappointed.

Avoid this hotel at all cists
Awful. There was no toilet seat or shower curtain. When we arrived there was no electricity to the room and it had to be switched on. It later tripped out leaving us in total darkness and unable to make a drink all night. There was virtually non existent hot water - a shower or bath was completely impossible. When I requested a refund because of these appalling conditions I was told “well you did book a budget room”. Even a budget room has hot water, electricity and a toilet seat. I will NEVER stay at The George Hotel again and I urge other travellers to avoid at all costs. I have photo evidence if all I have written which I am happy to share through all social media platforms available to me.

Ground floor is currently a building site/redevelopment of original pub. However, hotel area is behind and rooms above are in keeping with the age of the building. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Room was spacious, a little basic but very clean. Kettle, tea, coffee & biscuits provided in room. New carpet in room and newly tiled bathroom. However, bath itself needs refurbishment and older style furnishings in room. Bed firm but comfortable. Noise from old pipes kept us awake throughout night. Not hotels fault, but despite secondary window glazing a lot of noise still heard from lorries/outside traffic throughout the night. Which, if like us you’re not used to traffic noise, did disturb our sleep. However, for the price of the room this was a reasonable stay.
