I spend 15 to 20 nights a year in the Christchurch area, and I've stayed in a wide variety of places. The Coachman was cheap, has a great bathroom, is on major bus routes, and is next to a shopping center with a grocery store and there are many restaurants close by.
Price is the big perk here, if you take the small studio as I did. You sacrifice a bit on space. I was traveling solo, so I was fine, but a couple might want the larger room.
If you are a first time visitor and don't have a car, I would recommend something downtown instead--Breakfree is inexpensive, again by Christchurch standards.
Service was good, water pressure great, bed comfy.
