Not a great room this time
Stayed before a few times and overall it’s great but this time stayed in Riviera room. Bed really uncomfortable, carpets dirty Really disappointed as other rooms are much better

Pleasant stay, lovely helpful staff and great food
Accommodation was clean and comfortable, staff were all lovely. Very helpful and friendly. The meal that we had was excellent. My only critism is the short time span for breakfast, 7.30 to 9am. Sometimes it is nice to have a leisurely start to the day with breakfast a bit later. Also the lack of a residents licence when you are enjoying a nice family evening and are told at 11pm that it is last orders at the bar.

Breakfast was good but choices somewhat limited. You'll be unlikely to get phone signal at the premises at all (three network), which was made worse by the fact that there was no WiFi available for the duration of my stay (afternoon - morning). The room has a traditional style which ties in well with the building. Unfortunately there is no air conditioning which meant the room got very hot during our August stay. The bed was very comfortable, but a lighter duvet could have been a good option as we were experiencing a heatwave! The bathroom only had a bath with a showerhead attached for bathing, no barrier or curtain to stand up in unfortunately. The location is quiet and isolated and the staff are friendly and approachable. The stay was reasonable with a good quality cooked to order breakfast and very conformable bed in a quiet room. I feel at the cost of £140 (double) on a Sunday night stay it is a little over priced for what it is however.

Just great.
The hotel is beautiful inside and out. The staff are helpful but not intrusive, the food is fabulous and the wine choice is pretty good. The wet room in our room was great and everywhere is clean. Free parking and beautiful countryside. A little cut off but just the way we love it. We will be back. Thanks.

Sadly had to leave early.
Unfortunately our stay was cut short by the couple above flooding the bathroom and water pouring through the lights into our room. There was only a twin room available with a mattress topper, so we declined this and came home early. The Bickley Mill offered a £25 gift voucher, which we declined. This is a lovely place to stay and staff are attentive and helpful. Food is lovely. Just a shame we had to leave because of another couple flooded their room & ours!

Lovely old quirky building in a very quiet and peaceful setting. Everywhere was very clean and tidy, room had a very nice modern shower room. The food was excellent.

Excellent size rooms and a comfy bed. We loved having a spacious private balcony with a nice view of the valley. There was a nice selection of teas, coffees, hot chocolate and bottled water available in the room. The staff were very polite and friendly, and the food in the restaurant was excellent.

Mixed feelings ...
Really lovely sweet building with a rural oldie world feeling inside. Great shower room. Great supply of drinks (tea n coffee etc). Nice bed linen. Good service from the very polite staff. However, the doors to the rooms had heavy deadbolt locks on them ,no matter how quiet you tried to close your door they slammed shut . The walls were paper thin ; I think I had the newly weds next door to me!!!! 4am in the morning I managed to get to sleep ...not good. Breakfast on the first morning was lovely but the second morning I ordered the same it was overcooked and had egg shell in it; I left it uneaten .The window had been open on my arrival and the gnats had got in I had to go around swatting them before bedtime I counted at least 7.

Overnight stay on our way down to Cornwall. Perfect for what we needed. Outside gardens covered and open areas. Food was excellent breakfast the same. Room was fine with tea and coffee facilities. Would stay as a over nighter as nothing much around it.

A good stay
Staff were friendly, cheerful and helpful. Breakfast was good with fresh ingredients. Food in the restaurant was good. Room was clean. We were plagued with midges in our room at the time that we stayed (not the hotel's fault - apparently this happens for a couple of weeks each year because of the close proximity of the Mill stream) so had to keep our windows closed and when we mentioned this to a member of staff, they gave us a can of fly spray to use in the room, which helped. They also loaned us a fan as we couldn't have the windows open. The patio was a lovely place to sit with a drink from the bar and benefitted from the evening sunlight. We arrived in the afternoon and would have liked to have had a pot of tea and slice of cake in the garden, or maybe a Devon cream tea, but unfortunately neither were available, only a drink from the bar. So we would recommend that the hotel offer this as we're sure that other guests would like that option too as it was a bit early to be drinking alcohol from the bar. All in all, we had a lovely stay and would recommend the hotel.
