A very comfortable place to stay, always toasty warm inside with spacious hallways and rooms. A beautiful and grand building. Traditionally Scottish!

We had to stay over because we couldn’t get home due to a storm. We booked this hotel as it was dog friendly and had a lift. Hotel was lovely and well maintained in the bar and reception area. It’s such a beautiful building. Our Room appeared to have been updated some time ago and was clean. Good shower and soft white towels available. With the window open as much as we were able and the heating off we were very warm and uncomfortable through the night. We were put on a floor that had a large container collecting water from a leak in the roof which I found strange due to the size of the hotel and many more rooms would have been available. I think most of the first floor is to house staff. We had issues with the lift and a member of staff told my Husband when he reported it “you’ll have to take the stairs then”. My Husband is able to take the steps despite having disabilities however my elderly Mother was not. Staff need to be aware of hidden disabilities as not everyone uses a walking aid making it so obvious. The lift was fixed, we were told it’s an old lift. We didn’t eat in the hotel. The Chinese next to the hotel is delicious. I think the hotel would be a lovely experience when there are coach tours there, it was very quiet when we stayed. The area is nice too.

Fabulous value for Dinner, Bed & Breakfast! This once grand hotel still provides clean, warm, comfortable rooms, and grand, if faded, public spaces. While the dinner menu was a bit uninspiring, the food was fine (and great for the price). Full Scottish breakfast too. Happily stay again for a night or two.

A beautiful location. There are a few good walks nearby. Staff were helpful. Inverness is not far and Ullapool is only an hour away.

Over all, not to bad. Room was very dated. No bedside light in big family room. Wardrobe blocking view of 20" tv. Double bed off the level. My feet were higher than. My head.

The hotel was super old. The room smelled super bad, our clothes still smell after just being in our suitcase in the room. The window couldnt open so we couldnt air it out. The windows and bathroom had mold. The carpet was stained and the cups in the bathroom were yellow. The bed was probably the smallest and most uncomfortable double bed ive ever slept in. It felt dirty and uncomfortable to be there.

Mouse issues
Hotel seemed ok for the price. Unfortunately our room had a mouse/rat issue and noise of mice in the roof kept us awake. Had to change rooms and sleep was very broken.

The carpet in our room was worn through in spots, dirty water glass in the bathroom, Balcony railing was rotten so the door to it was locked. The room had a musty smell. Hair in the bathroom, and the food at the restaurant could have been purchased at a Texco. Alround never again.

Disappointed Highlander
All was reasonably good for the price, except for breakfast, which was a disappointing affair. The porridge on offer was extremely thin, almost liquid, and easily pourable. It was a few flakes of oat, barely suspended in some hot water and there was no honey or suitable substitute to make it edible. The coffee was weak and the fruit salad lacked imagination and variety in the fruits. The hot element lacked both fried and scrambled eggs. A poor offering all round.

Thank you for your review. I am disappointed to read there was no scrambled eggs on offer, as this is standard on our buffet. As your review is anonymous it is hard to tell when this occurred. Very basic
The foyer within the hotel is nice enough, the staff were friendly and the food was lovely. However, the room is something to be desired. The room is very dated, small, bed is tiny, and the pillow is too soft against a really hard headboard. The room wasn't hoovered, as I discovered toe nails at the side of the bed. The bathroom is very basic. The TV is a 15" one in the room and wasn't even plugged in when I went. It was facing away from the bed. The coffee in the hotel was really poor as well. I had to stop drinking it at breakfast, it tasted like brown water. The car parking is very limited. There is space for 10 cars which you can cram in, however if no space is available there, you have to park on the streets of Strathpeffer next to other residential houses.

Impressed with the overall package
Lucky dip find on the web site. Amazing place and spot on value for money. You are well advised to prebook Dinner as it is a bargain at the price. Large room with desk and "good" lighting; that's unusual in a hotel bedroom. I have already decided to stay here again when in the area.

Total heruntergekommenes sehr sanierungsbedürftiges Hotel in einer heruntergekommenen Gegend. Fenster schmutzstarrend, Matratzen furchtbar, Abendessen muss man vorher buchen (wurde uns vorher nicht mitgeteilt), sonst bekommt man keines mehr. Frühstück hat grauenvoll geschmeckt. Dieses Hotel können wir nicht empfehlen. Das Foto der Hotelhalle mit dem schottischen Tartanboden beeindruckt, aber sobald man in dem Hotel eingecheckt hat, ist man schwer entäuscht. Das Hotel hat ganz klar seine besten Zeiten hinter sich. Von dem einstmaligen viktorianischen Charme des Ortes ist nichts mehr zu merken.

Great location
Reviews of this place vary tremendously so I decided to book 1 night(location was perfect) and decide for myself! On the positive side, the staff are very helpful and chatty plus the breakfast was better than expected; on the negative side, let's just say it needs a lot of investment and TLC. The glory days are gone from this once upon a time majestic hotel.

A grand hotel!
Pleasant stay in a grand old hotel, it might not be quite as splendid as it used to be but the stunning lobby and stairways are worth seeing. Clean, spacious room on the second floor with a lovely view over the fountain. Self-service breakfast was good. Could not fault this hotel at all.

The property has been very grand and is now in a process of refurbishment so bits of it are a little tired. Staff are superb, friendly and helpful. Food was very enjoyable and excellent value for money. Cleanliness was excellent. Overall 5 stars

Great location for travelling around the Highlands
The highland Hotel is a mix of good and not so good. The good: beautiful old building with an impressive entrance to a large open seated area with reception and bar; very friendly and helpful staff; self service breakfast with a good choice of items (cooked breakfast mainly); clean room with comfortable bed and en-suite bathroom. The not so good: being an old building, the sound proofing is fairly poor, so you hear the other guests i.e. tv on at 5.50 am, someone walking about, and a wakeup alarm going off; bedroom furniture and fittings are dated and I have not seen a blue bathroom suite since the 80s; car parking is limited near the hotel but I always found a spot. Overall, I enjoyed my two night stay mainly down to the staff, the character of the building, and its perfect location to travel around the Highlands. I think getting a room without noise from other guests is probably hit or miss. Some updating to the bedroom and bedroom hallways is needed but they are kept clean.
