When I arrived, nobody was at the hotel "front" desk, it was around 6 PM. I had to walk around to see if someone was around to help me check in. After finding someone, and a couple of tries opening the door to our room, I find that there wasn't a phone in the room, wi-fi didn't work in the room, only outdoors (but we didn't want to be bitten by mosquitoes), hot water wasn't working, the soup that was there looked questionable.
I was meeting up with my cousin on the island but without a phone, she couldn't reach me. Fortunately, she found my hotel 10-15 mins after I had arrived or else she wouldn't have known if I had gotten there or not.
My cousin worked for Expedia, so she told me that Expedia sometimes find an alternative hotel if it doesn't meet expectations. I ended up still paying for that night and went to another hotel nearby.
