Here we go, my first negative review in 15 years of traveling the world. Not the first negative experience, but the first one I'm compelled to right about. "The Residences at Sun Peaks Grand" was advertised as a 4 star hotel with 4.6 (superb?!) feedback. I was looking forward to having my family enjoy hotel's amenities, but what we found when we got there was not what I expected. The stay wasn't a total disaster but it was far enough from "superb" that I have to say 'buyer beware'.
The Good:
- the staff is very pleasant as you can expect from Canada's ski resorts; very nice and easy to talk to;
The Bad:
- buildings adjacent to the main building are not quite ski-in/ski-out and you'll need to walk for 5min or so from the chair lifts
- when asked if they can provide slippers with bathrobes, they said "we don't do that"; I have never seen/heard this at a 4-star hotel before;
- the pool (outdoors) is very old and run-down; it is in a dire need of a remodel; very sub-par for a 4-star facility;
- the game room: out of 6 arcades, only 1 1/2 worked
The Ugly:
- leaky toilet in the room, making noises all night;
- construction everywhere
- out of 4 hot-tubs, 2 were non-functional
- sauna was closed/non-functional, which is a big deal for me on a ski trip;
- nobody at the front desk in our building (only in the main building) and due to construction, no way to get to the main building except to walk outside of the hotel (3-5min walk through the snow);
