Basic but clean and tidy.
As hotels go we got what we were expecting as we went there on a fairly low budget. The rooms were small with no chairs, and in my case, a toilet with no door and loo brush, even though ensuite. There were clean towels and bed linen however. That said, all was compact, neat and clean and tidy with generous biscuits, tea, coffee, etc. in each room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend it to a friend, but only if staying there for a few days. Can't rate the food as we didn't book any.

An old fashioned hotel but clean and comfortable. Friendly staff and perfect location for us.

Pirates weekend
We had a lovely warm welcome then shown to our beautiful room. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our weekend stay and we can't wait to return next year.

Nice hotel needs Tlc
We booked the four poster bedroom, lovely big room but the bed was awful to sleep in. Creaking every time you moved, feather duvet which was very hot an no top sheet. Bathroom was lovely but floorboards creaked walking over to it. Back of the radiator was full of dust. Windows need a good clean too.

Furniture very dated though this is reflected in the price. Single bed VERY uncomfortable. Double ok.

Lovely welcoming hotel.
Very welcoming and friendly. Clean and tidy big room, very small TV. Old building so doors don't fit tightly so can hear people but certainly not a noisy hotel. Would stay again. Good breakfast.

Run down damp house.
Dreadful. Locked out on arrival. Girlcsme haveis key after 3/4 hour. No staff. Girl said owners were out after all it was new year!!! Only saw l person Whole of stay 3 nights. Arriving back st 12.40 New Years night blsck no lights anywhere to see from car park or in hotel. Decide to have ayes in lounge Made I in room went to lounge to find someone asleep on sofa. Next night lounge door locked. Horrible three storey building that smelt of damp. Photos are not recent as sign is maroon n no canopy Over door. And Def. no flowers. Or dinning room (empty). No staff so if I wanted to borrow. Hair dyer or iron no body to ask 3 nights no omen change. Oh n def no air con. Windows run with condensation. I wonder if they are Insurered or have public liability. Never again I rate the service 0. The accom. 1. Over all 1. Worst place ever stayed. N they charged us £75 a night no breakfast. Room only. TERRIBLE PLACE.

Staff are fantastic.
Breakfast was delicious, staff are so helpful and welcoming!! Rooms had some cob webs around the place and the bathroom light was really loud. Doesn't really over shadow anything. 1 night stay was lovely.

Comfy stay at Shrewsbury
The Shrewsbury Lodge is a wonderfully quaint hotel located in a small town across the Mersey river. The people that work there are very welcoming and friendly. Feel free to ask them anything. They are very accommodating, and will do whatever they can to help. There is a nice looking dining area that one can get breakfast. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The wifi was great. This is a great place to stay if you want to feel like you are in the country side. There are buses that can take you into Liverpool city, but they stop running early. There are taxi services that you can call should you need it. I had a very pleasant stay, and I loved chatting with the people at the front desk. If you plan to be in Liverpool city, then it would be best to choose a hotel that is in Liverpool city, but if you want to explore the other side of the Mersey River and perhaps head over to Liverpool city once in while for some Beatles and sightseeing, the Shrewsbury Lodge is a great stay.

A good choice
Good welcome and parking. Service was friendly and efficient. Comfortable bed thick towels. Having a small screen TV mounted quite high made watching a Euro 2016 match uncomfortable.

Excellent overnight stay
We had a very pleasant stay, we were passing through Birkenhead and it was absolutely suitable for our needs.

Disappointing
No plug near the dressing table to plug hairdryer into, plus one very small mirror (which could not be adjusted) on the dressing table. There was a larger mirror by the main door into the room but no plug here.... Pressure of water from shower was very low so useless for washing long hair! Very noisy doors, we were woken up several times in the night as the guests next door came back in and the doors slammed automatically. When we went came back to the hotel after out night out, there were several foreign men coming down the stairs(appeared to be Polish I think) who were obviously working in the area and staying at the hotel. They were a little intimidating as they made no move to let us past to get up the stairs. They were also very noisy outside in the car park and my partner was concerned about his car getting damaged. They were also very noisy in the car park the next morning as well when they were getting picked up by a minibus.

Our room had recently been decorated, but a lot of little things, esp in the bathroom were not right. No towel rail; shower door did not shut completely; light over basin did not work; toilet seat fittings broken/absent; no water glasses. In the bedroom it was necessary to unplug the extension lead for the kettle in order to plug in the TV. Full English breakfast OK but nothing more. My wife's dinner was no better than acceptable.

Shrewsbury Lodge Guest House, Birkenhead
This Guest House was a real find. Home from Home! Very friendly and helpfull staff, pleasant surroundings, breakfast and evening meals very good. I was a 'late arrival' on the Sunday night, but this was not a problem and arrangements were made to fit in. Car parking and Wi-Fi a bonus. Convenient for anywhere on the southside of the Mersy or through the tunnel to Liverpool. I will be using them again when I am in the area.
