Been here a few times. Love the faded grandeur and original early victoriam mahogany everywhere. Plus the staff are always great.

The room that was booked for us was a sea view . but it was a cold wet day and heating was not working we asked for a different room away from sea . staff dealt with problem and was upgraded to a suite. could not fault staff all very friendly.

Could have been better spoiled a good stay
Breakfast could be hoter evening meal cold and steak inedible was told i could have free sweet but declined steak conld not chew still had to pay for meal end of stay booking out asked for deposit back and was told there's no record of me paying one hundred pounds deposit incase there was any damage to the room and because i paid by cash i am 67 years old and my friend payed by card it very embarrassing being told we had to go away as though we were telling lies but after three days we are going to get our money back but you need to make sure it never happens again

Spacious double room.
Very spacious double room, clean and comfortable. Lovely to have a couch and coffee table in a standard room. We were able to sit and watch the sea in comfort! Lovely breakfast, good choice. I would have liked it served earlier at the weekend though. We are early risers and 8am was a bit late for us. There is very limited parking on site so we had to hunt around the surrounding streets for a space. Something to bear in mind if you are not very mobile?

It was a convenient stay for one night with a good view of the somewhat stormy sea. Breakfast was adequate but not great.

Wonderful sea views, especially from the lovely piano lounge, terrific for pre-dinner drinks and bar food. The lighting in the dining room was so low however that you couldn't read the menu. Staff were delightful.

Some of the staff were great, though the attitude of the reception when I turned up 3hrs earl for check-in was decidedly lacking. No help provided, no checking to see if the room was ready even though I was early, instead (because the day was very windy and wet) I spent an uncomfortable 3 hours in their so could 'lounge', decidedly lacking in amenities and the bar was tucked round a corner so not immediately visible if you go upstairs to it. The guy doing the bar and the front desk were very helpful later on, but that initial impression is pretty poor. On a quick look the décor was definitely suffering, peeling pain on all window frames and the net curtain in my room was torn AND had what looked like mildew. Having the bathroom/toliet down some stairs and round a corner was a bit strange as well and I could see that older people would really struggle as there is no hand rail down those steps

Clean and comfortable.
We arrived at reception at 2.40 and without even checking were told our room was not ready until 3.00! So we had to return in 20 minutes! Our evening meal in the restaurant was very good indeed. Breakfast was well below average, with most of the food either cold or dried up. Certainly not worth £29. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The sofa in the lounge was somewhat small but luckily we didn't spend much time sitting on it.

Lovely location, our room looked out to sea. Friendly staff, clean rooms. All round perfect stay although only for one night, would love to come back for an extended break.

We had a lovely couple of days here. The property is 19th century and admittedly it is in need of a bit of careful renovation now. However the staff could not be more helpful and friendly and the breakfast was lovely. Our room was very grand looking, absolutely huge with high ceilings.

Comfy historical hotel.
I loved the hotel, lovely historical place. A little tired in places. Overall the place was worth the money charged. The food at the restaurant was nice.

Heel mooi gebouw maar ik kan het best omschrijven als “vergane glorie”. Het zou echt dringend eens opgeknapt mogen worden. Maar voor de rest niets op aan te merken: personeel is vriendelijk, eten was lekker en ruim voldoende. Kamer in orde. Parkeren was dan weer lastig. Er is een grote parkeerplaats iets verderop maar daar kan je niet met een bankkaart betalen. Het was dus even zoeken!

Staff were very helpful and accomodating and the room provided essential features but it is difficult to get past the creaky sad condition of the property. It is beyond "fading queen" status and needs a renovation soon.

Great overnight at the RVH
Comfortable and clean. Great sea view and breakfast. 4th floor slight corridor odours. Good reception and bar service. Convenient for beaches and city centre Hastings.

Right on the seafront with lovely views, bit dated but that just gave it character. Very clean. Breakfast was good. Had to use on street parking as their tiny car park was full, but it was all free.

Confortable stay in a historic setting.
Stayed on a room-only basis. Friendly greeting at the desk, the room was amost like a mini-suite with the bedroom, a second room with chairs, table and tea-making equipment, leading through to the bathroom. No issues with sleeping, bed was comfortable, room spacious, water hot, etc. This is a historic building, just as I like them, quite well maintained, at a very reasonable price point with an attractive and atmospheric interior and a great overall vibe. Not all swish and modern, if that's what you're looking for. I would definitely stay here again. Great views to the front, decent from the rear.

I was pleasantly surprised as the exterior is quite old fashioned. It was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast room had a lovely sea view but the coffee served was very poor and the cooked offerings looked rather tired but there was a good choice of fruit salad, yogurts and pastries. I will return!

Unfortunately arrived in storm and high winds, so hard to enjoy the surrounding property. Huge rooms (could hear the wind whistling through the windows), plenty of furniture, enjoyed room service and breakfast.
