I booked this hotel at the beginning of February as a surprise for my husband's 50th birthday, hoping for a short, romantic getaway mid-March. We live over 2 hours from the hotel, so were shocked when we received a phone call whilst en route, the morning of the stay, advising us that the room was no longer available. I wasn't given an apology or a decent excuse, other than there's "a problem with the room".
When I explained I had reserved the room several weeks ago, the receptionist was just rude and said there was nothing she could do, but she would try and find us another room. I had specifically booked this hotel for the 3* rating, and I reserved a room with a sea view. When we arrived at the hotel at 1.30pm, the receptionist ushered us outside with a business card for a chambre d'hote at the other end of Cancale and told us to try there. Again, NO apology and when we asked for the cancellation reason, we were told "water damage" in just that one room.
The chambre d'hote was not on the main street, but tucked away behind a pizzeria, so we lost our sea view, and instead of paying the 79€ we had reserved for this 3* hotel, we had to pay 92€ for a chambre d'hote with stale croissants for breakfast!
We wasted all afternoon trying to find another hotel, but everywhere was full due to the equinox/high tides this weekend - as we had only booked 1 night in Cancale (2 days), we lost half our time trying to find alternative accommodation!
Disgusted! No compensation was given!
