Lovely river views from our balcony room. We had stayed here years ago but I don’t remember the rooms being so small, I think they’ve all been refurbished and are all small now although they do have good size bathrooms. It was fine for one night but wouldn’t want to stay longer in such a small room. Food was good and plentiful (we really wouldn’t have ordered a starter had we known!)

Mersea Island weekend
I booked an accessible room as my wife uses a wheelchair but can walk short distances with 2 walking sticks. We found the Garden Room No. 7 was ideal for our purposes. They were flexible regarding breakfast items and were happy to accommodate variations on the listed menu.

Lovely hotel
Very clean rooms, lovely views over West Mersea from balcony. Had fish and chips in restaurant and was lovely. Breakfast was also 10/10.

All of our rooms come with breakfast which is served daily from 830am-1030am we understand that sometimes our guests may wish to leave a little earlier than this and are always happy to prepare some breakfast items that can be enjoyed to take away on request.

Overnight stay
I found the hotel comfortable with friendly staff who were obliging. Its a striking building with nice views. We only stayed one night, we were attending a friends wedding. The rooms are modern and fresh looking if not a little overpriced. I realise this is essex and tjere aren't many options on Mersea but £140 per night is high. I guess if we all pay it it will not change. The breakfast was delicious and again the staff were obliging. The tables in the restaurant are tacky to the touch and i noticed one staff member spraying some kind of chemical all over the table then wiped it off with paper, it was a bit over the top and would be better if it was rinsed off with water....no more sticky tables. Anyway overall a great night.

Disappointing.....
Unfortunately we didnt sleep very well, the bed was uncomfortable, the room was hot, (it didnt help that the towel rail was on full blast). A fan in the room would have helped. The bathroom mirror light & extractor fan didnt work & needs attention. People smoking outside directly below us, so the smell of cigarette smoke wafted up to our room, l realise not much can be done about that. On a positive note the full english breakfast was delicious.

Our twin-room was not good
I'm sure there are much nicer rooms at the Victory, but, unfortunately for us, they were not available. We requested a double room, but were given a twin room as it was the only one available. The carpet on the floor was very dirty and stained. The beds were tiny and on opposite sides of the room. The lamp-shade was tatty. It was cold and raining when we stayed, so we looked for heating. The option was a plug-in electric heater, but the legs had come off, so we had to balance the heater precariously on the feet. The bathroom door handle came off in my hand. The sink was grubby. The shower temperature wasn't consistent. The toilet seat did not fit the toilet. The breakfast was OK and the staff were friendly, but the room we stayed in needs a lot of attention.

The room was so small there was no room for bedside tables and the bathroom was very small with inadequate lighting. Two friends stayed in single rooms which were bigger than our so-called double. This room should never be sold as a double room.

Popped down bank holiday Sunday weather was fab, checked in all on time, room lovely and clean. Beds comfortable and a lovely full english breakfast before our departure

A little disappointing
Was a tad disappointing in that we slept very poorly. The dinner the night before seemed to have been warmed in a microwave as our cod has soft wet batter. The staff were friendly and we had a nice hot shower.

Small room but pleasant stay
The room was quite small with only a double bed but it was very clean and tidy, the en-suite was modern, clean and big enough but could have done with an extractor fan. Staff were friendly and helpful. The batter was burnt in the evening meal but otherwise food was good. Plenty of tea/coffee facilities in the room with decent sized cups (unusual for recent hotel stays) with extra tea, coffee etc on a table in the hall outside the room. Room was a bit stuffy during the night so had to open the balcony door - balcony shared with two other rooms but fortunately they were unoccupied that night. Free parking at the front of the building.

Great staff and hotel
Easy check in, very helpful staff, evening meal good, breakfast excellent. Don’t think radiator in bedroom was working but had enjoyable stay.

A disappointing stay this time
Have stayed here many times before but on this occasion the room was so cold which made sleeping and general room comfort not very pleasant. Also the room was not cleaned or maintained during the stay which the price did not reflect this. With this in mind had planned to stay again this week but have booked elsewhere. On a positive note the service and food at breakfast and supper was awesome.

Nice rooms over a Pub
Stayed in the superior suite which was nice, the cleanliness was also up to a good standard. Slept well, in nice white bed linen.

Lovely stay - a warm welcome on arrival and a lovely spacious room (room 5). The only down side was that kitchen fans were on under or by our room until 10pm ish and then again from 8am ish. This was balanced out by the fact that we had a small private balcony with a lovely side sea view. Room was very comfy, staff all lovely …

Choose your room!
This is a very nice pub that has had an expensive make over. The staff are friendly and work hard to try to ensure good service. When I booked the only room with outside space that was available was the suite which is spacious and has a modern bathroom with bath. However, the outside space was a large terrace that over looked the children’s playground and outside tables. Not a problem. The problem was the smell of cooking as the kitchens were just underneath our room. There were bins there as well but a member of staff moved them when I complained. As you will see from the photo the view was somewhat obstructed by the banks of solar panels on the roof to our left. None of this should deter anyone from staying at this pub just don’t pay the extra for the suite/ room 5! We ate here on our second night and the food was fine with good service.

Nice enough place, just be warned if you eat here.
Room was nice but not clean, didn’t check draws before putting clothes in, they were covered in dust when we took them out. The whole room could of done with some TLC. The staff were friendly enough. It must be difficult getting back up and running post lockdown and maybe they still have cleaners furloughed. But this was no excuse for the restaurant, after ordering the 1st alarm bell sounded, most of the unattended plates were unfinished, in hope more than expectation we thought the portion size might be the reason. The 2nd bell sounded as the young lady cleared 2 tables and returned to wipe them over with the same cloth and no disinfectant of any sort, which was concerning in these COVID days. This was enough for my partner to want leave, unfortunately I persuaded her to stay. Then the meal arrived, which will live long in the memory. The burger was worse than any football burger I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen some pretty bad ones knocked up over the years. The chips I can only presume were from plates of other patrons that also couldn’t eat them, but they must of been warmer when they had them. The garlic bread, may of been in the same kitchen as some garlic but doubt they came into contact and it also avoided the grill as it was literally bread and I felt pity for the sad looking onion rings. We took1 bite and left. It tasted as bad as it looked. The only other place we could get something at the time was Cowabunga pizza, which was really good as pizza go. Give it a go🍕

Rooms new, very clean, and in good condition. It is a pub so expect a bit of noise until close, you do get the benefit of a drink without having to drive. Close to the main oyster restaurants and the beach.

Nice bar, very friendly staff, room 1 was spacious, comfortable and has a huge bath. We didn't eat at the Victory because the main reason for our visit was to eat at the Oyster Bar directly across the road...which was fantastic...
