2 night weekend stay. Room was 1 of 4 in cottage adjacent to pub. Reasonably spacious, usual amenities. Comfortable bed, quiet. Relaxed feel. Staff are lovely, friendly, very helpful, chatty, courteous and competent. Breakfast was excellent. Traditional experienced landlord who sat for a chat during breakfast. Dinner was good, varied menu with lots of specials. Real ales. Traditional old English country pub. Lowish beams, inglenook fireplace and another log fire. Very much a locals pub we were made to feel welcome and included with gentle banter. First Friday of the month local bands play and we were fortunate to stay at that time. Band was very good and layout of the pub enabled you to sit far enough away to both hear the band and chat to your partner. My wife and I were in need of a break away and The Hatchet fitted the bill perfectly. We were quite taken with the whole ambience of the place and most certainly plan to return. Prices are fair and reasonable for rooms, food and beverages.
