Room was just ok, was clean but a bit tatty, very loud water pipe noise when next door room flushed their loo. No soap only shower gel. Internet details given in the room did not match to any service available, so unable to use it. Went for breakfast at arranged time of 9.00am to find room locked and nobody in sight! Didn't turn up until 9.20, breakfast was very good when we did get it. Whole place could do with a tidy up. But on the whole not too bad.

Tired and dated
Arrival and check-in were pleasant and I was shown to my room with a jug of fresh milk and cold water; good start I thought. The room was very hot (however it was an exceptionally hot that week)but there was no offer of a fan. The room decoration was a little dated, however it was the bed with no headboard, lumpy pillows and broken draw fronts at the bottom and the rentokil box that really put me off. Despite the appearance of a tin of tea bags and there was only teabag in the tin! The evening meal was pleasant, however breakfast was a disappointment. The display of Aldi cereal and £1 carton of orange juice was too much like having breakfast at home to charge £85 per night for. I have nothing against budget supermarket food, however I would expect more from a B&B or at least the investment in some containers to offer better presentation.

We had high hopes for staying here, unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. Room was large enough but every thing a bit old and worn out. Bleach stain on chair, marks on the walls, rusty towel rail, toiletries open and half empty . Asked if we could arrange an early breakfast but no-one turned up .

It is in a lovely setting. But standards have clearly been allowed to lapse over a long period of time, and it shows. Although the staff were welcoming and friendly, there were sticky stains on bedside tables, no loo seat, no soap, and one bed was supported by a book to replace a missing leg. The chrome towel rail in the bathroom (a 'wet room') was so rusty that one leg had entirely been eaten away at the base. Tea and coffee were supposed to be provided in the room; there was about a tablespoon of coffee in the jar supplied, so old that it had congealed. In the dining room, all the chairs were originally covered by a shiny fabric; it has now worn away in patches all over, much like mange. The outdoor areas were messy and untidy. A general feeling of hanging on by the fingernails.

Lovely comfy bed and nice linen Single glazed windows so lots of traffic noise No milk in mini fridge to make a drink Nice relaxed atmosphere A bit of dust and few cob webs and bugs in the room but not dirty No complimentary shampoo and body wash but took my own anyway

Needs Improvement
Was served an undercooked (raw) burger as an evening meal. Gap around the door frame was so big, it was like sleeping outside. Walls were ridiculously thin (I could hear the TV from 2 rooms away). Was asked what time I wanted breakfast (8.30am). It didnt appear until 9am, but it was too late by then as I had a meeting to get to. Wouldn't recommend and won't be staying again.

Won’t be returning.
The room was ok by an average standard, but the shower was small and the cleanliness was dubious. I chose not to eat in the main pub as this wasn’t appealing at all and only ised this for breakfast. For the price I paid, this was not worth the money and would have expected a lot better standard. Breakfast was below average.

Nice country hotel.
Nice room(no. 3) with en suite shower. Toiletries were good quality. There was no TV in my room when I got there, I mentioned it to the lady on the bar and within minutes someone came and brought me a TV from another room. Food in the pub is lovely, both evening and breakfast meals were delicious.

Disorganised check-in, tired hotel
This hotel only has 7 rooms, yet when we arrived needing two next to each other (due to travelling with children) the staff had seemingly no idea which rooms were already full. It took nearly 20 minutes to sort out which two were ours - and instead of a double and twin with an extra mattress, we had got two doubles, with the 3rd bed nowhere to be seen. From comments by the owner, I think someone else had been allocated our rooms by mistake. The rooms have been done out nicely, but are starting to look a little tired in places - and I was most perturbed to find a mouse trap behind the furniture in ours. The enormous squashed spider rolled into the roller blind was also unwelcome! Service was pretty slow and forgetful throughout - with washing up taking priority to getting the 3rd mattress in - even 2 hours later.

The photos look lovely & we were looking forward to staying here but there were too many little niggles to give this place a good review. When we arrived the TV was not tuned & the lady who worked there asked if it was alright if she could sort it out when we went out later. As the room was advertised as having a TV & we were only there for one night it was a bit annoying but we were prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt. The rooms were like chalets or a motel & were flimsily built. You could hear a lot of noise from the nearby busy road & the wifi didn't actually work in the room. I couldn't get any signal either so there was no way of accessing the internet to plan our night out unless I went out & got close enough to the house to connect. As one other reviewer said the bathroom was tidy but not very clean which is the perfect way to sum this place up. There was a bit of mould in the shower & the toilet roll holder was broken and nobody had been bothered to fix it. When we got back the TV was working but the picture was terrible. I wanted to take a shower but couldn't get it to work. With the help of another guest I eventually worked out there was a pull cord in the ceiling which was not very obvious. You'd think one of the staff would've mentioned it - basic hospitality. The breakfast in the morning was fine but nothing special. The coffee was terrible, probably instant. There were a lot of dead flies in the window. More care and attention to detail needed.

Extremely Dissappointed - Wasted Weekend :-(
I don't even know where to start! It was awful although we felt sorry for the landlady as she appeared to be completely alone and we were the only guests all weekend. The pictures must have been taken by a very good photographer is all i can say. The rooms were tired, the restaurant was tired, it was "tidy" but not clean, the breakfast was awful. The whole place was just very sad, also the poor drainage outside made the whole place smell awful. We felt like we were staying in a stable with a cheap bed. The bathroom was awful, there was no WiFi connection unless you were in the restaurant (and i wouldn't recommend going in there either)

we stayed here to explore the Bedfordshire area but this an excellent place to stay for local airports and the dinner choices and quality were very good, we intend to carry on looking around the area and will stay here again later this year

Not ideal for business travellers, no wifi in the rooms and the 3G / phone signal is very poor. Also not great for early morning breakfast, had to wait outside for 10 minutes as door to main house was locked. Would be better for leisure visitors but not really geared up to take business visitors.

Awful stay but place has so much potential
This could be an amazing hotel but the owner has fallen out of love/enthusiasm for the business. Unfortunately there were lots of things below standard expectation. On arrival the Wifi code was somewhat of a mystery. 3 times I asked for the code and then the wifi was very poor! No towels, milk or hairdryer in room and had to ask for towels and hairdryer. I hadn't noticed the lack of milk until I went to make a coffee. Lets say the coffee never happened! Breakfast was poor - nothing like a good bowl of £2.99 value cornflakes displayed in the box and a 25 minute wait on a cooked breakfast of bacon, eggs and mushrooms. I won't be returning but hope my comments can be of use to the owner.

a walk in thr country
We had a lovely stay at this Inn. My only complaint is that the springs on the bed were making the mattress indented, it was as if it needed to be flipped 180degrees. Otherwise the room was very comfortable, the breakfast was good as was the evening meal. The scenery was stunning, hills and green fields, with walks in the countryside right from the doorstep. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

Nice clean hotel in rural setting close to Hitchin
Hotel is chalet style in lovely rural setting, only down side is road can be a bit noisy but this calms down later in the evening and certainly didn't cause any sleep problems.

Gone downhill a little!
I stayed here about 18 months ago and it was great. I think there may have been a change in management? On arrival I felt like I was inconveniencing the 3 staff behind the bar who seemed very stressed and busy but there was only 2 customers sat at bar. The room was fairly clean but tired with mould in shower etc. Mattress was very old and worn so didn't have great nights sleep. Bed sheets were odd. Terrible Vodafone signal all around (not hotels fault!) and even wifi intermittent. The "safe" burger and chips I ordered for dinner took a long time and was very average (just about edible) despite there being only 3 other customers there. All staff just seemed to make everything look such hard work despite there being no one there! The rate included breakfast however when I tried to enter the pub at 7.40 in the morning the door was locked. I assume the manager opened it when I knocked but she had prepared nothing, was hurried and seemingly annoyed to even be there. I asked for a coffee and some toast before I left. That took some time as nothing was prepared. Thank god I didn't expect a cooked breakfast! I asked for the bill as I didn't have a lot of time before I needed to leave I was made to feel like a pain. Or if the worst hotels I've stayed in a long time mainly due to staff and low quality food/service. Shame as it's a beautiful location.

Room was bleak, bed was really uncomfortable. Service at bar and restaurant was really slow, not surprising with one member of staff doing bar and waiting. On a Saturday night! Food, well let's leave it there! Could have done with a chef, but he apparently walked out on Mothers day. Breakfast, two poached eggs done in the microwave! solid, and cold toast. A smile from the owner would not have gone amiss, still I don't suppose she had much to smile about.

Checked in and was shown to the room, on looking around i found the following Hairs on the bed the sink had hairs in it and some sort of yellow gunk Fridge had old milk in it the loo had wee stains went back to reception where the staff were sorry but i checked out as did not want to stay here due to what i had found

Don't use them!
We checked in to the room with had a curtain rail and no curtains. We had a kettle and tea making stuff with no cups. We asked for breakfast at 8am and we're asked if we could have it at 9am. We were then woken at 3am by noisy people leaving the pub, we went for breakfast at 9am it was all locked up and we could not get in. The staff finally open up at 10am for breakfast this ruined or whole day. We paid and left not happy with the service 10 days later they have taken more money off our credit card. We have noticed our credit credit not to pay this. Will not be staying here again or using this booking agents. Terrible terrible!

Nice place, a bit remote without a car
I stayed one night at The Live and Let Live. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was warm and comfortable and the food was very nice. I'd have been happy to stay longer.

As a last port in a storm served admirably
I was having difficulties with booking and wifi while travelling and needed somewhere that could provide a comfortable room and dining for family. The rooms were adjacent to the pub and more motel-like than I expected but the room was very modern and the bed exceptionally comfortable. Dinner and cost reasonable.

On arriving the hotel looked very comfy and quiet and a peaceful place to be. When checking in there was quite a delay and not much communication with us from staff. The room was very sweet and nice design but it was very cold when going in which made it less comfortable. The food was very good, tasty and home cooking and the two waitresses we had where so lovely. We did want to leave at about half 8 - 9 in the morning but found noone around to checkout and had to wait half an hour until we found someone.

Definitely overpriced but clean and comfortable.
The room was really clean and comfortable, having a decent size TV was great. The staff were friendly & helpful. The rooms are located in a chalet block away from the main building and got really cold due to poorly fitting external doors - however portable heaters are supplied. The gaps around the door also let a lot of noise in from the busy main road that passes around 15m from the block. Wifi wasn't working either for the entire week I stayed (nor the 3 nights my colleague stayed the previous week) which was frustrating as the mobile phone signal is terrible in the area. You are essentially cut off. The shower head in my room was also broken, when coupled with extremely low water pressure it resulted in less of a shower, more of a dribble. The inside of the kettle was full of limescale fuzz which looked pretty gross. Shop bought loose teabags were also presented in an open bowl and loose sugar in a box - who knows who's had their hands and dirty spoons in there before you. Surely single serve sealed sachets should be standard in a room that costs £85 per night? Restaurant was hit and miss, I had a steak on two nights - once was perfect, another was totally overcooked and came with old salad leaves that were browning when they'd been sliced. I paid £425 for the week and expected a lot better.

dirty and disgusting
having stayed previously i was not expecting the state of decline.The room was tired and dirty.No milk had been supplied to room and when requested staff were happy to help but gave milk in dirty jug with brown stains around inside rim!.Noticed black mark like foot print on pillow slip so removed to investigate and found pillow yellow with sweat stains and only white on corners.The door when locked from inside could not be opened again!. Had to climb out of window to open the door to let my disabled wife out. At this point we could not raise a response from the pub at 8:30am and decided not to risk our health by staying for breakfast which was due to start a 9am.Put keys in post box and left. Phoned later in day to complain and advised door fire risk, but staff uninterested.

Owners changed less than 2 months ago. Place was nice but they appear to lack staff. Bar maid tried to waitress. They forgot to turn on lights in bathrooms and restaurant when it got dark. We were first for dinner and they ran out of selection. Grounds needed upkeep. Could be a nice place if they worked on it.
