Dear Ms De Ridder,My sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused during the incident on Monday evening as well as the fact that you fell ill overnight. Please see below statement on the events that occurred as it more than a water leak which resulted in the hotel being evacuated and guests moved to other properties.Tuesday, 14 November 2023, Rosebank, Johannesburg: Southern Sun Rosebank experienced damage from a severe hailstorm on Monday evening when the roof above the hotel restaurant collapsed under the sudden build-up of ice and water from the storm. Emergency services were quickly on the scene to secure the area. No serious injuries were reported, and all guests were evacuated and relocated to Southern Sun’s hotels nearby. The hotel is closed for an evaluation and repair, and impacted reservations are being transferred to the group’s other hotels.On the evening we collected as many blankets as we could for guests from the areas of the hotel we were permitted into by the emergency services, we also arranged shelter from the rain at the police station across the road which many guests made use of.I do you hope are feeling better and have a better understanding now of the incident that occurred resulting in the events that followed that evening.All the bestAnthony
