We travel to Nepal extensively and have stayed at a wide range of hotels. Baber Mahal impressed us quite a bit. The beauty and quality of rooms rivals Dwarika's Kathmandu. The Rana style is a nice change from the busy streets of the city.
The shopping and dining within Baber Mahal is wonderful. You can spend your days out in the city and enjoy quiet, restful evenings strolling the property and dine in a different area each night all week. The breakfast included with our room was good and offered continental options as well as a few traditional choices. One note: my husband always orders an omelet and he could not say enough wonderful things. It made his top list of favorite omelets!
There is a lovely open air pub off of the lobby that makes a nice stop for a cocktail or coffee before heading out or back to your room after a long day.
We had the Singha Suite. Plenty of room to spread out, get work done, sip tea on the balcony overlooking the main courtyard, get a good night's sleep on a nice firm mattress, and tip toe out to the pool next to our room for sunrise. The bathrooms are particularly large and clean. Only lacked a hairdryer and I suspect I would have requested one.
Overall, the staff went above and beyond to see that we were comfortable and well cared for. I will be back!
