The room was good at first glance, but soon we realized the maintenance they do is close to zero for the rooms. We were very surprised to see they have flies and mosquitos inside the room. The bathroom vent was not working and faucet was leaking water. Water clogged in bathtub. We kept calling front desk, they said they sent technician who will arrive shortly, but nobody cared to show up for an entire day.
I would say the breakfast even seemed pretty standard considering what similar 5-7 star hotels in Kolkata nowadays arrange for. I have stayed in Grand, Peerless inn, Novotel and many other hotels before and compared to all of those I had a huge expectation from the Taj, which I thought was obvious considering the heritage and the brand name. But I left with a heavy heart and disappointment.
The next day before I left the room, noted everything in a piece of paper and kept it on the table for room service. I came back and found the head of room service manager I believe, he personally took care of the things I have complained on my note and fixed those in the room. They even found a hole in the window, the reason why insects were there in the room.
