The restoration of the Abbaye itself is beautiful. The rooms were dusty and I was on a cane from an ankle surgery and there are 62 steps to get to the level where the rooms are and there is NO elevator. The reception staff was kind enough to upgrade me to a duplex suite in a separate building but there were 12 curved steps to the bedroom upstairs. The pots out front had dead flowers. The worst was the food wait staff. At the 1star Michelin rated restaurant we waited 10 min to get water, another 20 min to get a drink and the coq au vin was so salty it was the worst I have ever had. It’s s shame the food experience is so poor because the Abbaye is so beautiful. Not worth the money though.

Amazing
This is a great place to stay. It is an old abbey made into a luxury hotel. Yes, it is expensive, but worth every penny. The building is fascinating and the grounds are wonderful. The staff is very helpful and friendly bu not hovering all the time. The restaurant was very, very good. Our only regret is we cold only stay for one night.

Simply put, it's heaven on earth, Burgundy style.
We enjoyed so many special moments as a family, beginning with our moment of arrival. As we unloaded our bags from the car with the help of a bell boy, our two young sons ran out onto the courtyard garden. We found them moments later buried in lavender bushes with about 100 butterflies swirling over their heads. It's all idyllic and lovely, complete with a row boat on a little lake coverer by a canapy of trees, and a sprawling lawn with cozy lawn chairs perfect for lounging in while enjoying that Burgundy wine. Very Merchant and Ivory.

We just spent 1 night here but I recommend spend 2 nights and more with excellent atmosphere. It is ideal place to relax and taste French culture and tradition

Magical!
If you want to have an experience of a lifetime do yourself a favor and stay here. This place is magical and it would be with any staff, but the owners and staff here are the most helpful, warm and professional people. I rented out the abbaye for the weekend for my wedding at the end of May and it was beyond my wildest dreams. I reserved the abbaye sight unseen off of the recommendation of some friends who had stopped for lunch there while on a trip up the canal. I went and checked it out in person last June and it blew me away. Here are a few reasons why you should stay here: 1. The owners live onsite and are the easiest people to deal with and work extremely hard to make sure that your stay is perfection. 2. The grounds are perfectly manicured. Fairytale like. 3. I had a 14 course meal at Le Cinq weeks after my stay at the abbaye that had nothing of the meals that I had at the abbaye. 4. Our wedding guests were from California and all felt like the trip was well-worth it after experiencing the abbaye...the finest wine, the most comfortable and beautiful rooms (and huge), the staff. Trip of a lifetime. 5. The jet tubes are nicer than anywhere you'll stay in the world (and I've had the forturne of staying as some of the nicest hotels in the world). 6. On Saturday afternoon before the wedding we had a picnic lunch made for our guests to take out and enjoy on the grounds of the abbaye and play lawn games and take out the paddle boat. Could not have been a more perfect afternoon. I have never bothered to write a hotel review before. Worth it.
