Staff was super nice, room was fine (it was cheap, and it was clean), but the club downstairs was SO loud that I couldn't sleep much. Also, it almost sounded like there was drag racing happening. It was odd. Anyway, I wanted to like it, but the sound situation was out of control. I had airpods in, but it didn't help.

Fui recibido en el check in por un recepcionista desinformado, poco empático y negativo que aunque tenía mi reserva hecha y pagada por Hotels.com, supuestamente no la encontraba sin ofrecerme ninguna solución a la situación. Después de unos minutos de impasse y mostrarle en mi celular la reserva y confirmación, entonces misteriosamente apareció dicha reserva. Procuraría no volver a quedarme en este lugar

The hotel was ok, the staff was great. However, I made a reservation with Expedia for two double rooms and the hotel had only a reservation for one room. The hotel managed to set us up but was not what we had reserved.

Place was disgusting, staff was unprofessional and gave the dirtiest room in the hotel even though every other room was empty. No breakfast, no restaurant/bar..I do not recommend.

It is imposible to sleep after 5:30 due to the market in front the hotel. You can hear people talking, vehicules and music from 6:30 AM, every day.

Too big of a name for the services
The name Hotel El Rey (The King Hotel) is way too big for the quality/services of the establishment. At check in, toilet was not properly cleaned. In the evening had problems with the A/C in which took them 2 hours to get the correct remote control to make it work. Problem with their hot water specially when you want to use the shower. If you get a room in the main floor (lobby) specifically room number 1, be prepared for all the noise specially when people are coming up the stairs. Don't rely too much in getting Wifi from your room, unless you are in the lobby. By the second day I had enough and was transferred to a bigger room in the lower level in which there was no Wifi whatsoever.

Give this one a pass
I had a little trouble communicating with staff, but not too bad. I booked at a sale price and I still think it was overpriced. No windows. No hot water. Hotel decor is garish but not offensive. The neighbourhood is very dirty and unwelcoming. Mostly auto garages, gas stations and industrial type businesses. It was walking distance to Carnival though, so although the neighbourhood isn't attractive it was convenient.
