Didn't like: Parking is shared with "Redneck BBQ" and not always available. Couldn't find a working elevator. No hairdrier. Liked: Nice sitting area downstairs. Good WiFi. Clean.

Everyone was conscientious of the curfew When the staff is available, they were fantastic. If you had a question, you got an answer in a timely fashion. It was walking distance to all the bars and restaurants. Just a great experience overall.

Looking for an updated hotel w/modern conveniences? You won't find that here. But if you're satisfied with a small room, comfortable bed, and a quiet place for about one third the price for the area, then I'd recommend The Pines Inn. Original hotel built circa 1907 - could definitely use some remodeling. Small rooms w/o fridge or microwave. Old furniture/carpeting. Narrow hallways/staircases that creak/no elevator. Despite all that, room was clean, bed was comfortable, and hotel was quiet. Restaurant/bar was good, wait staff very friendly. Best advantage: walking distance to everything in town. Worst part: no front desk staff. Check in is pick up the envelope with your name/room # written on it that is left out in the open on the front desk. Check out same way - drop your key back on the desk. Didn't exactly give me a sense of security. I prefer to see an employee greeting guests as they come and go throughout the day and night to ensure everyone who enters the hotel belongs there.

This is a great place to stay for the price. It was clean, simple and easy. Maybe a little outdated and worn in someplaces, but I would definitely stay here again.

We were in a room next to the stairs and it was extremely noisy. We were unable to sleep at all. The property had peeling wall paper, holes in the walls and stains on the carpet. I have no idea why there were so many five star reviews.

Nice shabby shick. Its dated but the new owners are doing a good job renovating it little by little. I like their vision. A restaurant on the premises is a must.

Loved the price for the area, and I didn’t expect perfection… it’s an old property. But I did expect better cleanliness. It was clear that the floor hadn’t been vacuumed prior to our stay nor were the blinds cleaned in….? There was mold in the tile grouts of the shower, and stains on the shower liner. On top of that, there was a stain on the top quilt that made us question if it was cleaned between stays. We had some problems with the TV and wifi, which we were helped with, but overall, I can’t recommend a stay here.

Check in was easy, no staff, just your room key sitting with your name on it at the front desk. Furniture is outdated and needs repairs. Better off updating. Floors were dirty even in our room we had to keep our shoes on. Two tvs in our room and neither would even turn on, visable mold growing in the shower, blinds did not lower just fall down when you attempt to close them. Windows in our room did were not fully closed or locked, attempted to close but they would not move and not all the lights worked in the room. We were pn the 2nd floor and there was a sign and gate blocking anyone one from going to upper floors however we could constantly hear someone walking around and making noise above us. Also we never saw any staff at any time during our stay.

Affordable and nice place to stay in Lake Placid. 10min walk from Mirror Lake. Only negative point was the lack of heating, but space heaters were provided in the rooms. There was a fridge and a microwave too. The parking is shared with the on-site restaurant, so it may take some time to get a spot at times. My key was not at the front desk upon checking in, but a staff member was readily available to assist me. The property is on the older side, which gives it a charming style like in an old movie.

No staff available at checkin take keys with your name on it laid out on desk. Be warned no operating elevator narrow stairwells with inadequate railings if you are elderly or mobility issues Kerig in lobby plenty of coffee but the water dispenser was empty so unable to fill kerig to make coffee

Easy and convenient place to stay in lake placid for a fraction of the price of other hotels. It was nice having dinner without having to leave as an option. Biggest downside was parking…when coming back from dinner elsewhere, the parking lot was full with people dining in at the restaurant. We had to kill time before being able to park even though we were paying to stay there.

We needed extra towels no one around to get them.. we had a tv in our room that was not even near an out let .. was not even hooked up .. it was also loud in the hotel.. people partying all weekend until 3:00 am .. totally unacceptable!! You really need someone on the property at night .. this was unbelievable we understand people having a good time but when you cannot sleep do to people partying in the lobby and no staff on site to take care of issues. Management needs to be addressed.

The rooms were clean, the staff was kind and helpful. Could use some updating (some peeling wall paper and paint) but for the price and close to main street, it was a good place to stay.

This was a very reasonable place to stay and very clean. Old hotel charm like it was right of the early 1900’s. Do not expect service like you normally get at any other hotel. We never had any exchange of towels or toiletries. No front desk staff. You pick up your key (a regular door key) at the front desk when you check in and that’s about it. A place to pick up room supplies would be great. With that being said we woùld definitely stay there again.

Neat old place with lots of charm! Nice staff and reasonably close to town. Only downside was the shower. Had to run water for 2-5 minutes and wait for it to warm up and the volume was was quite low.

Intriguing, convenient and cheap. No frills accommodation. Took me a while to figure out how the TV channels work but other than that, it’s hard to find a better bang for your buck.

Don’t stay here
I’ll start with the pros: I initially booked this hotel for one weekend and then needed to reschedule the trip relatively last minute. The hotel was very nice in accommodating the change in stay, despite it being so last minute. You can walk to Main Street of the town in under 10 minutes and the location is beautiful. The cons: the hotel was dirty and falling apart from the inside out. When checking in there is no one at the desk (they leave your keys in an envelope with your name on the counter and you help yourself). I checked in around 5:00pm, so not an unreasonable hour. This means that if you need anything or have questions you have no one to ask. The room had wallpaper that was peeling, a huge stain all over the carpet that looked to be (attempted to be) hidden by a weirdly placed chair. The bathtub had paint peeling from it and the sink was rusted. It is clear that the room has not been clean, maintained, or updated.

Very cool older property. Excited to see renovations while preserving the history here. Super close to main street, made it really easy and convenient to walk down for dinner and drinks. Restaurant in the hotel was also very good! Wish the hours were open a tad longer.

The hotel is old, but clean. Has a charm. The staff members made me feel like a star, because I participated in the local figure skating competition and won. LOL. The bistro downstairs has delicious food. The house red wine is fantastic. Everything was cheaper too.

We never checked in. I left several messages over multiple days before leaving for stay and received no return call from anyone. I've faced challenging travel conditions all over the world and never experienced anything quite like this. I will not be booking stays at any affiliated properties in the future as I am uncomfortable traveling to locations where fully paid for rooms may or may not be available, staff may or may not exist, and guests' physical room keys are left out for anyone to access until they arrive.
