Our recent stay at The Atrium Hotel in St. Maarten had its ups and downs. Room 306 offered a partial ocean view blocked by construction, and an upgrade was prohibitively expensive at an additional $400 USD. The room included a mix of functional and outdated amenities; notably, the dusty air conditioner along with dusty table lamps. The bathroom was spacious but showed water damage and incomplete renovations. Missing conveniences included a clothesline in the shower and a non-functional safe with no instructions.
The coin-operated laundry required obtaining quarters from the front desk, which was cumbersome. The small kitchenette sink made dishwashing difficult. Coffee packs were a one time courtesy as told by a front desk person.
Interaction with the staff varied; while Aisha was consistently helpful, others were less accommodating, and communication about hotel policies was often confusing. Housekeeping was limited to once a week -which was fine, we did not know about the garbage and bathroom towel replenishment schedule.
The recreational facilities were underwhelming, with shallow pools that was very close to the Buccaneer Bar. We did not know the blue chairs and umbrellas were the only ones for guests - not yellow ones.
The Atrium Hotel has potential but needs improvement in customer care and maintenance. The hotel is a fit at being a basic 3 star hotel. It does live up to the star rating that many people rate it as.
