The owners were nice. Parts of the property are very run down, but some rooms have been renovated nicely. I had several problems at checkin, all resolved except for non-functional internet. The owners had just had new wifi equipment installed a day or two previously and it was not working. This issue was apparently resolved on the last day of my 4-day stay, but I was able to use a hotspot in the interim, so wasn't greatly inconvenienced.

Very clean, and overall the place felt significantly higher value than your average unit of the same style and price range. The facility seems very well kept. Parking space right next to the front door, spacious doors, great showers with fantastic water pressure. The only downside was the noise from the highway that was close to unbearable and went on more or less all night. We stayed in one of the units closest to it, so it's possible the average experience might not be as rough. Curtains also leaked a lot of light in. If you're a rough sleeper, I'd be a bit wary. In every other sense this place is a gem.

Thank you for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed our amenities. The majority the motels in Mackay are, like us, on the Bruce Highway and some road noise is inevitable regardless of which property you choose. However, we do have rooms towards the rear of the property which are more protected from the noise. I suggest that for a future stay you specify that you would prefer a room at the rear and we will do our best to accommodate you. All our rooms have blockout curtains but we will check the room you occupied to see if we can address the light issue.

Everything we could want in a self contained unit. Loads of storage. Foxtel. Lounge dining. Big bathroom. And quiet even though it’s on the main road.

We (2 adults 2 kids) stayed 6 nights in a family room. We were greeted by the owner on check on and the service from all staff we encountered was impeccable. We were given great advice on things to do in the area. The room was exactly as advertised. Aircon in the main room and the 2nd bedroom was a welcome relief for us “southerners”. Bathroom was clean and modern. Beds were really comfortable. The kitchenette had all we needed to make our own meals, including post and pans, stove top, microwave and convection oven. The playground structure is a bit dated and worn but the kids still had a ball running around in the enclosed grassed area. The saltwater pool had plenty of seating and a large shade cover over most of the shallow end. Even though it’s on a main road we were in an apartment at the rear of the property and it was quiet. The other guests were mainly workers but were friendly. Close to supermarkets, and a short drive to the shopping centre and lagoon. We would definitely choose to stay here again!

Good location, in easy walking distance of a supermarket and places to buy dinner. Older unit, but very spacious with a FULL sized fridge, this being one of the reasons I chose here. A table as well as an office desk with a power point for the laptop. Kitchen sink. Nice shower. Roomy bathroom and shower recess. Bathroom lacks bench space. Comfortable bed, but the pillows were on the hard side. The lights could do with brighter bulbs. Out the back of the rooms is a handy clothesline. I would stay here again. Friendly owners.

The property is old however clean and tidy. Problems for attended to promptly. Very roomy and plenty space for everything. Better than some tourist units we have been in.

The photos advertised at this property did not describe the apartment I was supposed to receive on my booking. We managed with the 2 bedroom motel room accomodation and small kitchen, but overall the stay was very disappointing. The grounds certainly need tidying up and the pool area was definately a disgrace with broken pavers and pool furniture. We would not be coming back to this accomodation.

Weekend away!
Quick check-in with great service and very helpful and accommodating staff. I would highly recommend staying at Rover Holiday Units. Self-contained accommodation, with spacious living area and rooms. Close proximity to shopping centre, shops, pubs, servo etc. Very convenient. Reasonable prices.

Easy access to foreshore and city. Noisy location facing intersection. Single glazing and no blackout curtains. facing east it was very bright after 5 AM in the mornings. No sleep-ins.

By signing your comment as Anonymous I cannot identify which room you were staying in. There appears to be shortcomings in your report. 1. we do not face an intersection. 2. Double glazing in Motel rooms is rare. 3. All units have blackout curtains. 4. None of our units face east so I sincerely question whether you stayed at The Rover Motel at all. I would be very pleased if you called or emailed me directly to discuss your concerns. Guest satisfaction is our highest priority.

A great experience for the Family, family of 5 and had plenty of comfort and space. Great facilities, definitely recommend to others and will be returning next time we are in Mackay.

Great location after a long day
Staff were so friendly and kind to us after a long day driving with kids! The room was huge and spotless. Plenty of parking and a nice cold pool to refresh ourselves in.

Convenient and value for money.
Great place to stay for a couple of days. Wish it was cleaner, otherwise very comfortable, plenty of space, eastly cooking facilities, close to Highway to go and explore. Recommended.

Check in was smooth. Water was hot. Beds were clean and fresh. Good place just to get some sleep for the 2 of us with 3 kids.

Clean. Room had been updated only kitchen doors could do with replacement. Excellent ensuite. Pool area is tired but functional. Smoker next door meant we could open the windows. They also stole our parking spot. Biggest gripe is place was listed as two bedroom and is only one bedroom. Big bed in bedroom and singles next to lounge. A second TV in bedroom is useful in these cases. We paid extra on the two bedroom tag and were disappointed.

Thank you for your comment. The property was purchased two and a half years ago and since that time the new owners are continuously undergoing renovations to enhance our guests stay. Any issues you may have had with your neighbour should have been bought to the attention of Management who would have rectified your concerns. We are here to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
