Small, clean and extremely friendly little hotel.
My sister and I had a very enjoyable stay at the Flame Tree Hotel, It was small ,very compact and clean and tidy. The food was good and home cooked ...and generous portions. The staff were extremely helpful and interested in what their guests were doing and how they had enjoyed their days. I had a slight accident on our last night and the staff deAlt with it efficiently and with compassion... All in all a lovely little hotel.

Difficile de trouver l'hôtel sans GPS. Les noms des rues de Funchal ne sont pas identifiés par des panneaux. Difficile aussi de s'arrêter pour demander son chemin car il y a peu d'aires de stationnement, on gène le traffic.

Nice basic hotel close to the center.
The hotel was comfy, we had one of the cheaper rooms so can't say about all the rooms, but the one we had was clean and pretty basic. A bit cold at night (start of february) but that's pretty much all the negative I could say about it. The staff was nice and everything went ok. :) The breakfast was ok for the price too!

Pleasant reception and stay
We booked the hotel to provide an additional stop-over prior to moving to our long stay residence. We were pleasantly surprised by the good reception we received from the staff of this family run hotel. It provided all we required for a very competitive price. An unexpected bonus was the good quality of the food produced by their own kitchen.

Einfach und relativ ruhig, Aussichten sind nicht schlecht, das Personal ist freundlich. Die Bedienung im Restaurant könnte etwas aufmerksamer sein. Längere Betten, oder wenigstens am Fussende kein zu hohes, quer angebrachtes Brett. Stadtzentrum und Küste sind zu Fuss in 20 Minuten erreichbar. Essen, Trinken, Einkaufen, Bushaltestelle, Levada-Spaziergang.

Charming hotel
Very pleasant hotel with it's own charming character and a great contrast to the soulless concrete monoliths that abound on Madeira. We were lucky to have a top floor room with balcony facing the sea. One of the better located rooms I believe. The room & ensuite were a bit 'tired' and quite small but very clean and adequate for our needs. There was more floor space on the balcony than in the room, the balcony being the best feature.

Ideales Hotel für preiswerte Nächte
Wir waren 7 Nächte in the Flame Tree Hotel und mussten nach der ersten Nacht Zimmer wechseln wegen Umbauten, wurden hier jedoch mit einem Frühstücksgutschein entschädigt. Grundsätzlich sind es ältere kleine Zimmer mit sehr hellhörigen Wänden und Nachtruhe ist etwas schwierig da man wirklich alles aus allen umliegenden Zimmern hört. Auch die Hunde in der Nachbarschaft sind die ganze Nacht laut zu hören. Diese bellen sobald jemand an den Grundstücken vorbei geht. Die Lage ist etwas außerhalb auf dem Berg aber innerhalb 10 Gehminuten ist man im unteren Bereich. Der Heimweg zu Fuß dauert dafür länger wegen der Steigung. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Frühstück war hervorragend und für mich ausreichend. Zusammenfassung war der Aufenthalt ok da wir viel unterwegs waren und nur die Nacht im Hotel verbrachten.

Flame Tree pendant une semaine
Nous avons passé une semaine en demi-pension dans l’hôtel. Le personnel est adorable, très à l'écoute des demandes. Notre chambre donnait sur la mer, avec un beau balcon équipé de fauteuils et table basse. L'amplitude des horaires des repas est super, par exemple dîner entre 18h et 22h, ça évite de speeder l'après-midi lorsque l'on randonne. Les repas sont sympas, changement de menu tous les jours possible. Le service à table est presque "trop", toujours une assiette propre en dessous de l'assiette et son contenu que nous mangeons. Je dirai que c'est contradictoire avec la demande d'économie de serviette de toilette (normale), lorsqu'ils ramassent les couverts, les assiettes propres partent au lavage, donc pas d'économie d'eau ! Mais bon d'une manière générale c'était au top. L'emplacement n'est pas au centre de Funchal, mais possible d'y aller à pied si l'on est courageux (20 mn) et des bus partout, comme pour bien des endroits dans l'île.

Excellent value
No complaints about our stay. Helpful staff, lovely meals and handy location. Away from the busy city centre, which was easy to get to by near by bus stop, or a twenty minute walk(uphill on the way back though!) Very good value for money, would definitely stay there again.

Value for money, basic hotel
so the small rooms have only a bed, a dressing table and a cupboard. It's basic. You must ensure you book a room with a balcony to enjoy the room. We managed to upgrade when we arrived but the rooms are usually booked over the summer and you may not get this chance. the breakfast was great and value for money. the staff are very friendly here. the hotel is walking distance to the centre at 15mins. however as the hotel is on an incline (hill), walking back from the centre is challenging. You can take a bus instead.

Good food, but sometimes took a long time to arrive, room adequate, but ours was above dining area, so there was discomfort from people smoking and noise , breakfast was served from 7.30am , so not good if you wanted a lie in.

Hotelpersonal ist nicht interessiert an dem säubern des Gehweges vor dem Hotel jeden Tag hundehaufen und auch das Unkraut stört sie nicht ! Im Zimmer in meinem Fall nr 23 gab es im Badezimmer keine Steckdose,die Toilettenspülung war kaputt ,Nachttisch Lampen war defekt . Und im 21 jahundert gab es kein Fernseher im Zimmer für mich unglaublich! Würde dieses Hotel niemandem empfehlen!

Kleines ruhiges Hotel. Freundliches Personal.
Insel ist toll. Wer sein Zimmer nur zum schlafen nutzt für den ist das völlig ausreichend. Zimmer sind klein, aber sauber. Personal freundlich und hilfsbereit. Essen ist super. Hotel ist ruhig gelegen, Zentrum ist aber zu Fuss gut zu erreichen ( ca. 25 Minuten).

Lovely quiet hotel with helpful staff
Although this hotel is a little way from centre it is a lovely quiet family run hotel with helpful staff. There is lots to see in Funchal. Hop on hop off bus ticket makes this a good way to see the city and the island bus tours also are good value too.

You pays your money.....
On arrival, the staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough for us. Unfortunately the enthusiasm of some staff gave way quite quickly and it was at times difficult to attract the attention of the waiters. Breakfast was excellent although despite being offered from 07.30, the ovens were not on, we had to wait for them to be heated up (10 mins) and then the food we received was cold and we could only assume it had been heated up from the day before as there was not enough time for them to have roasted tomatoes etc. We had dinner one evening and couscous with roasted vegetables consisted of couscous with lettuce, 2 slices of courgette and 1 cherry tomato. We sent the cheese board back as it comprised a small dish with a few lumps of cheese and 2 biscuits (for over €7). Reception staff were very helpful and although it was easy enough to walk down to Funchal it was quite mountainous coming back. There are no bars, cafes or shops near the hotel and no real beaches on the island (that we found). There was no TV in the room and no kettle although the staff immediately brought in an extra bed as we expected a twin room and were given a room with a small double bed. There are both positives and negatives with regard to this hotel but for the price we paid it was more than adequate.

Lovely hotel in a spot with wonderful views
This hotel is about 30 minutes walk away from the centre of Funchal, but isn't for those who don't like climbing steep hills. Fortunately for me, who lives in Wales, this wasn't a problem. This hotel is lovely in that it isn't in the bustle of the centre of beautiful Funchal, but in the hills around it. This area affords the opportunity to see real life in Funchal as opposed to the tourist view. On a positive note, the hotel is very traditional and is in a lovely spot, especially if you want to view the New Year's fireworks without being in town - the view is spectacular. However, I would recommend a few changes I the small rooms to update them. It doesn't bother me if I don't have a sea view - though this is something I would request next time - but the room I stayed in had only one fault and that was the way the furniture was arranged. The hotel staff are wonderful, friendly and will do their best to help whether it's a problem with the room or it's tourist info tips you want. I will definitely be going back, not this year but maybe next, thanks to the the hotel and the atmosphere.

Ruhiges Hotel, je nach Zimmer mit Meerblick.
Leider war unser Zimmer sehr klein und so musste einer von uns mehr oder weniger aus dem Koffer leben. Das war aber auch der einzige Mangel. Das Personal ist außerordentlich nett und stets hilfsbereit. Frühstück und Abendessen waren sehr gut. Es waren schöne Tage und wir werden das Hotel wieder buchen mit einem größeren Zimmer.

In die Jahre gekommene Hotel, was sich bemüht mit!
Einfache Betten, dunkle Räume, altes Inventar, hellhörig, Badstandart = mangelhaft, wenig Ablagemöglichkeit, kein Fön, Service gut, Küche gut. Lage, das Hotel liegt außerhalb des Zentrum, Ca. 2,8 km Fußmarsch. Busverbindung oder Taxi günstig. Schöne Terrasse. Störendes, vor allem am Abend und in den Morgenstunden Hundegebell. Freundliches Personal. Manuela, die Alles wirklich Alles möglich macht.

Limited choice on the menu. Many items not available when requested. Waiter was always paid in cash but when checking out we were presented with a bill for food that had been paid for. Hotel said money "cannot be accounted for'. After some discussion they agreed it was a mistake. Seems the waiter had kept the cash & then put an unsigned bill into reception for me to pay again. Quality of food is average & expensive. Waiter service was appaling.Shame this aspect spoiled an otherwise ok stay. Reception staff were excellent. Sadly we cannot recommend this hotel & out next trip to Madeira in April will be to another hotel.

Nettes kleines Hotel am Hang.
Nettes, kleines , einfaches Hotel in Hanglage. Die Entfernungen zu den nächsten Restaurants und Kneipen , sowie zum Hafen und der Altstadt sind für Leute die gut zu Fuß sind machbar , durch die Hanglage ist der Rückweg jedoch teils anstrengend. Es fährt jedoch ein Bus . Die Haltestelle liegt ca 150m vom Hotel entfernt. Beim Ticketkauf sowie beim mieten eines Leihwagens ist das Hotelteam behilflich. Es gibt einen kleinen Pool den man kostenlos benutzen kann. Unser Zimmer war recht einfach ausgestattet aber sauber. Etwas mehr Komfort wäre schön gewesen. Das Frühstück war Standard mit verschiedenen Brotsorten , Kuchen , Kaffee, Früchten und Fruchtsaft. . Auf Wunsch gab es auch frisch zubereitete Warme Speisen. Auf der Karte gab es auch kleine Snacks sowie ein Tagesmenü . Die Cocktails und das Bier ( Coral ) waren gut und preiswert. Insgesamt waren wir zufrieden und können das Hotel empfehlen. Für Leute die den Trubel lieben gibt es unten in Funchal in den Bettenburgen sicher bessere Angebote.
