the service was great but the fact that the people who shared the room came home in the early hours morning drunk,did not go down well, tried to get a single room but none available so i booked into another hotel so i could get some peace and sleep well after a long 2 night journey from rotorua, and seing as i was going on a 6hr trip to greymouth i needed the sleep,

Above average hostel
It was a good hostel if you want a chill fun night. Love the pool/sauna and spa. Not enough parking on site but plenty on street parking. Close to Nelson CBD and good outdoor space at the hostel.

0/10. Lasted 15 minutes and booked alternate accom. Door to first room I was supplied with had been busted in and the lock was hanging by a fragment of a screw thread in one corner, almost on the floor... Pillows looked a little too crumpled to be fresh. Arrived to windows open on a cold wintery night. Approached staff to repair door, was supplied with a second room. Tried to shut the windows but the latch was snapped off. Asked staff to close the window and told "It will be alright" They then adjusted the curtain which was like well ripen swiss cheese, holed from sagging misplaced hooks on a flimsy rail, welcoming the wind to greet me. Enough I thought! NO! A small smurf sized oil fin heater is plugged in by the staff member. Why?... there is a fan heater on the wall. I turn on the fan heater to hear the exorcism of Edward Scissor hands in a paper shredder begin. Ah. Over it. I booked somewhere else. No one on reception, so I just put the key on the desk. Let the staff know I was leaving as they were out the back by the pool.

WORST experience.
I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay in Paradiso. I have stayed in many hostels before, in NZ or overseas. I have to say, I have never stayed anywhere WORSE than Paradiso. CHAOTIC, UNCLEAN, UNFRIENDLY. I booked 4 double room, but when we arrived, we were given 3 double and a 4-bunk bed dorm. I thought that was fine as long as it was for us only. Little we know how chaotic the management is. The dorm room is super small and gloomy, we opened the door to air the odour out. However, our PRIVATE room soon became a PUBLIC hall way. Our room is connected to another room with a door. We locked the door from our side because again we booked a private double room. While my friend and I(we are two girls) chilling out in the room, a man walked in without saying anything to enter another room. We were SHOCKED! Five minutes later, another man did the same thing and I asked him to leave and use their entrance because our room is a private double room. But the man explained he is used to use this one. I was astonished. At night, a group of people sat at our door step and chatted until we had to get out of our bed to tell them to be quiet. Anyway, over all I would not recommend anybody to stay here and we would not do it anymore.

Das Hostel bietet einen Pool und einen Whirlpool. Das kostenlose Frühstück ist auch okay - jedoch wird dieses je nach Lust und Laune “geöffnet”... Es ist relativ laut und es wird viel Party gemacht. Generell war der Aufenthalt soweit ganz gut.

The property could be amazing. It has a pool and hot tub. Great location, but it's a college party house. I've been to many college House parties and this place is just like many of those that I have been. Disgusting bathrooms and showers. Hair piled up in the showers and the water pooling out into the hallway. The bathrooms, I don't believe one person who stayed there actually aimed at the bowl. There was urine everywhere. The kitchen was a mess and no one cleaned up properly after themselves. Dirty dishes put back on the shelfs and food clogging the sink drains. There is a sign stating that the outside common area would be closed after 10 to keep the noise down. Well I guess that is not enforced at all. The music was loud, the beer bottles clanking all night and people shouting and partying till the late hours. Not good when you need to be up early for an all day hike. I will not be back and suggest everyone looks elsewhere for a place to stay.

Strong hostel community
Paradise is a solid hostel with strong community. The energy there is what makes it interesting and the pool common area was active. Additionally, the staff has strong relationships with people in Nelson and were helping guests find work.

Good location nice pool, but more of a party hostel full of younger people ! Doors slamming late into the night, kitchen dirty, rooms dusty with no personalised charging points. Bathrooms ok, bed linen stained and cat asleep on one of the beds on arrival

Bij onze aankomst bleek dat er een verkeerde kamer voor ons gereserveerd was. Omdat er geen andere fatsoenlijke kamer was kregen we een kamer in het bijbehorende motel. Die kamer was perfect. Schoon, prima bed, goede badkamer. Het hostel is ongelooflijk smerig, in de keuken kleeft alles en overal liggen kruimels, de borden en het bestek zijn niet goed afgewassen, kortom: niet naar toe gaan!

Value to stay!
Environment is very nice. Like the swimming pool and poolside sun chair, and enjoy the moment here. We are lucky to hv a ensuite room. Seems many people long stay in there, kitchen will very busy after 6pm. They will provide free bread everyday which is very sweet.

the place was unclean, the toaster, dishes and the tables very sticky. Kitchen was crowded. The staff really nice.

Good for a night stay
The hostel is nice, and has some cool amenities and recreation, but the outside rooms tend to feel a bit uncomfortable especially with insects entering the rooms

Roligt ställe om man är på partyhumör! Alltid nåt på gång, bra gemenskap. Dock rätt så högljutt och även smutsigt i stora delar... läget var sådär, ca 10 minuters promenad in till stan. Inte mitt favorithostel i Nelson men ändå helt okej!

People talking outside room until very late. Overcrowded common areas. Not enough dry tea towels in kitchens and many guests left their dishes on the sinks and some did not wash up. Only stay here if you are under 25years.

Disappointment
I am sure that in the past this has been a very nice play to stay, however now the place is very dirty from the showers, kitchen to the outside area. Also being kept awake until 3 in the morning by other guest's outside in the common area is not fun.

Great place
Very impressed with the manager. She was really helpful and managed to find a good secure park for our mototor bikes. Would definitely stay here again!

I was only staying in Nelson for one night on the way back from the Abel Tasman walk. As I was just needing a bed for the night, I booked a room through Wotif at a backpackers and given the option of twin beds or a king, opted for a king bed. I arrived to a small dark room with twin beds and a stained chair. The staff member said the twin beds could easily be made into a king bed but when she removed the bed cover to reveal stained sheets and the shower had a clump of hair on the floor, I'd seen enough. The staff member was very understanding and helped me get a refund, minus the Wotif commission, and rang around to find a new hotel. The staff member was fantastic and to be fair, I didn't see the rest of the place, nor did I stay, so I can't comment on the place overall.

Hôtel assez proche du centre ville disposant de pas mal de services (piscine spa...). Soupe gratuite le soir à 18h et donne un paquet de nouille par personne à l'arrivée ! Petit déjeuner inclus correct.

It's a bit far away from the city centre and noisy because it's a party hostel. My bed was the upper bed in a bunk and I sometimes hit the head in the ceiling (I am not tall!) The good thing is that it has a pool and a spa and offer free soup and basic breakfast.

definitely not the most heartwarming hostel
We booked a room with a bathroom, but when we checked in they told us that we only have a room without a bathroom. There was a lot of noise pollution till 1.30 am from outside were young kinds are drinking. The communal showers and toilets were smelly and dirty.

Good if you want to party
Huge place, nice pool and hot tub-If you could get near them! Its pretty crowded and there isn't really any control. If you are young and looking for a cool party place this is it. If you actually want some sleep and have an early start maybe somewhere else is better. 1.30am and they were still partying outside my window. Depending on your view this can be good or bad. Its a big busy backpackers. The kitchen is nuts, showers were dirty (very busy) and my bed looked clean but something was itchy for me. It all depends on what your looking for.

The high score must be from all partiers at Paradise. The hostel is apparently "the worst" in Nelson as we heard afterwards from many people. We had a private room at the motel's side which was a plus because it was quiet. It should've been a double bed but it was just 2 mattresses next to each other and the gap was very unconfortable so it was as food as a twin room with one blanket. What shocked us the most was how people behave at the hostel, especially the kitchen! 1/10 cleaned after themselves and usually when you came to the kitche there were only dirty plates, pans, etc. People leave all food and everything just on the tables and don't care at all how dirty it is! You had to clean the bench/chairs and the table before you could sit down or otherwise you had jam/milk/tomato on you. It was disgusting. The hostel offers free soup every evening and free breakfast in the mornings, which is nice.

On the the first morning the receptionist and housekeeper decided to come into our room at 8am and start discussing the empty bed - no consideration to the other people in the room! This meant we were wide awake! It would be advisable to use a computer based booking system and not the bed sheet system they are using as it clearly does not work On the 2nd night each night they take away the chairs from outside your room at 10pm for noise - this I was perfectly fine about as it means there is no noise - but until 12am there was a group of people who seemed to still be allowed their chairs and sat drinking and playing Music and keeping everyone else awake - staff working there must have their own rules The rooms were not clean - in the lockers underneath were full of rubbish from previous guests Not sure how this place has such a high rating!

Not terrible, but wouldnt pick it given the option
I ended up having to a book room here because I had no where else to stay and everything I tried was booked. I booked a private room but initially when I checked in I was shown to a hostel room. I stayed in several shared hostel rooms during my time in NZ but I'm so glad I didn't have to stay in that one. It was a twin top bunk and a bottom double bed and the beds took up the whole room there wasn't even anywhere to put my bag let alone 3 ppl's bags. It smelled quite bad as well. When I went downstairs to remind them I had booked a private room I was moved to another building. The private room was MUCH better. It was spacious and even had it's own bathroom. I did feel that it was clean however everything seemed quite old and outdated.
