The rooms are smaller but we didn’t need a large room for our stay. It was cool that it was the hotel where The Originals was filmed!

The staff was friendly and inviting. The room was clean and comfortable. The surrounding area was great. We were in the heart of the French Quarter and were able to walk everywhere and leave our car parked safely at the hotel. It was cool to know what one of my favorite shows “The Originals” was filmed in the very hotel we slept in.

Didn’t quite know what to expect of this hotel - and it started with a Himalayan trek to get large cases up to our 3rd floor room through winding staircases - but that was before we realized actually what a gem this place actually is….. Do they serve any food or drink in house ? No (unless you count free bottles of water !) - but you have the entirety of the French Quarter on your doorstep !!!! You can get anything you want (pretty much literally) within a very short walk The Royal is actually a very very charming old building - very much ‘in the mould’ of the French Quarter and they have not messed with it thankfully. The rooms are very nicely appointed (and individual) - these are not the square boxes of the monster hotels that proliferate outside the FQ…. So yes once you get used to it being different to a boring ‘modern’ hotel then you start to appreciate everything this place has to offer. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone who really wants to be in the heart of the action - can’t wait to go back ;) Oh and the staff went above and beyond in helping us with not just directions but booking up some of the various attractions we wanted to see - well done to the whole team there….

We booked this hotel through Expedia. We paid for a specific room type and absolutely did not receive such room. Heads up they do not list photos of the majority rooms. The room was very very small. The bathroom was almost comical. To fit in the shower the door had to be left open (for reference I am 5’2 and 120lbs.) There is no elevator so unless you are lucky enough to get a ground floor room be prepared for a lot of stairs. Also, Parking is not on site and we never saw any type of security around the lot we were sent to park in. The location of the hotel is great but that’s about all it has going for it!

We will stay here again! Perry at the front desk is the rockstar of this hotel. He made our stay memorable and enjoyable!! Made sure we had everything we needed everyday we were there! The room was charming and had that old New Orleans feel.

Historical hotel with lots of stories from Films made there. Walking distance to much surrounding of bourbon street bars, shops, coffee. Bed was great. Balcony was what made me book this hotel.

Nice hotel. Loved the room and location. BUT, never had a TV remote....and the room was on the 4th floor. A walkup. So you better ask how many steps to your room. Because ours was really far up....

Great Location, close to Frenchmen Street, French Market, Street Car, Bourbon Street. I've been to New Orleans several times and hotels in this location are typically where I like to stay because everything is walkable. There aren't elevators, not a show stopper for me, but something to be aware of.

This was the true French quarter experience. There was no elevator and the entrances were a bit of a challenge. Otherwise it was all we expected it to be . The history of the area was wonderful. The only real drawback was the poor heat on cooler nights.

We travel to New Orleans multiple times a year and we his is the first time we stayed at the Hotel Royal. We loved everything about the place. The staff was so friendly all the time and they were completely on top of the service to our room. We loved that it is in the French Quarter, but it is just off the beaten path of Bourbon Street and the craziness so even though the partying was going on a. Few blocks away, we had quiet when we wanted to sleep. It was so convenient to Jackson Square, restaurants and Bourbon Street. We loved it and will be coming back.

We stayed in “Superior room” #16 on the 4th floor, which was awesome and quiet once we got there each time, but it’s a LOT of stairs. Perry at the front desk was so nice to offer carrying up all of our luggage (practically insisted)! If we were to come again, I would request deluxe room 1 or 2 near the fountain (if you just need a small room). Superior Room 25 is right by the front desk and is larger, but the TV is in the closet. Haha Our family loved staying at Hotel Royal, and we would definitely stay here again in the future. There’s a coffee shop across the street, and Rouse’s Market is a short walk away. If you prefer quiet and are pretty fit, the top floor is where it’s at. Some people in our party who stayed on the 1st and 2nd floor said it was kind of noisy in the morning and they needed earplugs. Just know that the hotel is almost 200 years old, so there are definitely some quirks (water takes time to get hot, some uneven floors etc). I would just recommend calling ahead of time and asking what floor you’re going to be on so you know what you’re in for and can prepare. Awesome place!

Literally the only possible downfall was that there was no elevator and getting our luggage to third floor. Room is small, but we weren’t there much at all. Staff was nice.

Clean & Quiet Hotel on Royal St
I used to stay here before Covid. They have been closed for several years and finally reopened and they appear to have taken the opportunity to update the rooms. The Royal is at a good location away from the noise of Bourbon St but close to coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping on Royal St. Be aware they have a lot of stairs and no elevator.

There was a problem with the room on our arrival, but Neal was great and took care of it immediately. Great older hotel in a great location. Great funky charm. Close enough to walk to everything, but far enough from the Bourbon St craziness to sleep at night. Highly recommended.

Second time to stay there!
The staff was very friendly. The rooms were clean. The hotel has character. The only negative thing that I can say is that the rooms are small. But we didn’t go to New Orleans to spend time in our room, only to sleep. It was our second time to stay there. The location is great.

The staff was great, very very pleasant for every interaction. The property was recently renovated and we were impressed with how clean it was. The only things we didnt care for at the property was a lack of elevator, not a big deal if we were on the 2nd floor or something but it was 59 stairs to our room everytime, if my wife and i were 10 years older or had bad knees/hips it could've been a real issue. Also this isnt property specific but the lack of parking was a big detractor. There was a shared lot for hotels in the area but a $45/night price tag was steeper than i wouldve liked.

The building is over 200 years old. The plank floors the high ceilings the balcony, beautiful ! And just 2 blocks from the French Quarter… yet your off the beaten path on a nice quiet street to escape when needed. FYI there are no elevators but wasn’t an issue for me. The only thing that would have been nice is a mini fridge in the room.

It was 45° when we visited and the heat didn’t work properly in our room, I reported it three times and did not get it resolved therefore was very cold both nights. Also housekeeping did not come back to do our room

This is a beautiful hotel walking distance from bars and restaurants. The room had a hole in the bathroom ceiling and the bath tub stopper would not work.
