A very short walk to the beach. A great pool, wonderful staff. A place to cook if you wanted to. I parked under a tree. They washed my car for me. Edwin and his staff are absolutely the best.

The hotel was close to the beach and many reataurants and bars. The rooms were a bit dated but had everything we needed. The outdoor pool was very nice. The security guard checked us in and was very helpful.

Property is in perfect location to everything and right across from the beach access. It’s great that it had parking! There is a coffee machine but no coffee, or cups. No beach towels and you are not allowed to take the bath towels to the pool or the beach. We knew this ahead of time and brought our own beachcomber towels. Lovely little property, had a nice cozy quaint feel to it, and we were on ground floor with sliding doors to little terrace and steps to the pool. Enjoyed our stay.

We booked this place for a week. Great location, the surrounding was nice. The room well all we could do was sleep. Adirondack chairs for the room uncomfortable. No where for your clothes. The only hot water was in the shower. There was a coffee maker but we need to get filters cups spoons and yes coffee!! Could not get it across we would like two wash clothes everday. Guess at 225. Aday they thought we would steal them. Would not recommend this place and would not go back.

We had trouble sleeping due to noise from discos and closeness to main road. Very loud until 4am .. The property was left felt and clean and had great pool. Minutes to the beach.

The people who ran this Hotel were very kind and helpful. 100 percent, it is such a great place to stay at. It is close to the restaurants, things to do, and parking your car is great too. We enjoyed this Hotel. We would stay again.

Quaint accommodations, friendly staff - Edwin & family made us feel so welcome, super comfy bed’s, very clean hotel with a beautiful pool. Beach right across the street, many dining & shopping options within walking distance.

Great location right in the middle of Tamarindo and just across the from the beach. Great pool, fridge and oven in the room, you can cook your own food in the open kitchen at the pool. Very helpfull staff- Nice room and great balcony. Ee had breakfast every morning at the small Italien café just across the street and went surfing everyday. Great place

This was a great little spot to stay with an awesome pool, right by the beach, tons of shopping and right in the middle of the main center of town. They have long hours at the front desk and someone that hangs out in the parking lot to keep an eye on things. Our only gripe was that there was some kind of loud remodeling work going on two of the mornings we were there. Wish they would have notified us about this so we could have planned to be gone during those times.

Gute Lage in mitten von Tamarindo, zum Strand nur 1 min. Aufgrund der zentralen Lage halt etwas lauter, aber damit muss man rechnen wenn man in Tamarindo übernachtet. Der Pool ist super und kann bis 10:00 pm genutzt werden

The 2nd floor room and balcony were clean and spacious! Comfortable king size bed. The air conditioning worked great. Big pool with outside cooking area. Very close to the beach with restaurants and shops within a few steps. Wished they would supply coffee in the room. Would definitely stay again.

Easy fixed needed
Great location has the potential to be fantastic but fell short in many areas. The hotel has no ice. Really? Coffee maker on top of the microwave, no coffee, filters, cups or condiments. Sign over the coffee maker says Microwave is only to be used to reheat coffee and if it used for food that you will be charged $50!! Really? Towel are thin and horrible.

We stayed 3 nights at Mar Rey. The small hotel is in a perfect location to enjoy Tamarindo right in the main area and a few steps from the beach. It was very clean, and the staff was mostly friendly, nice pool. I only downgrade them to Good because of a couple glaring issues that are easily correctible: 1) they have NO pool towels, and some employees refused to exchange our wet (pool used) bath towel for a fresh one, expeciting us to reuse it for our shower later. Not acceptable for a nice hotel. Also towels were worn. 2) They don't provide any facial tissues or napkins in the room, only TP. Other than this, it was a good stay and recommended. Be aware though that it is directly in "Downtown" and is noisy outside until midnight at the bars and shops. No fault of the property, just be aware.

This hotel is in the heart of Tamarindo, which was the only benefit. The room was awful. We originally had a reservation to stay 4 nights but checked out and after one night because of the conditions. None of the doors have seals so the mosquitoes weren’t kept out. Our entire family woke up with bites all over us and mosquitoes flying everywhere. The rooms are outdated and not clean. I would consider this property more of a hostel than a hotel. Our family would absolutely not stay here again.

Les points forts :la situation à 50m de la plage , au centre de la ville et la piscine ( magnifique ,propre et chaude ) , chambre avec une terrasse avec fauteuils . La gentillesse du personnel. Les points faibles : le bruit nocturne ( boum boum jusqu'à 1h ,la musique très forte et les hurlements des gens qui sortent de fête ) , les chiens qui aboient sans cesse même la nuit qui sont en liberté dans l'hotel et qui font leurs besoins près de votre terrasse), une cafetiere mais pas de café ni de tasses .

We stayed here our last night in Costa Rica for proximity to the airport. Wifi was spotty and kept kicking us off, in the rooms you could hear all the outside noises, but the worst issue was the power kept shutting off in the whole hotel. While we were at dinner it shut down 4-5 times. Then when we got back to our room it was constantly flickering on and off, sometimes lasting as long as 2-3min. No power means no AC. We would lose the AC every time the power shut down so it took quite a while for the room to actually cool down. Pools looked nice.

The hotel itself seemed run down. The pool was great and the property was well taken care of. The cleaning staff missed our room one of the 4 days despite us asking for someone to come and change out the garbage in the bathroom. The sheets on the beds had blood stains on them (evidence of previous bed bugs?). The hotel is on the Main Street and it was very loud with honking and traffic whistles most of the night. The proximity to the beach was great and convenient walk to many restaurants and shops. Overall not a great experience.

Spent five nights in Hotel Mar Rey. Loved everything about it. Perfect location in the center of everything and less than a minute’s walk to the beach. Nice relaxing private poor with plenty of seating. Gazebo covered outdoor kitchen with grille and electric range for preparing meals and nice outdoor dining area. Clean, comfortable and spacious room with strong AC and wifi and hot shower with high pressure. Friendly and attentive staff. Absolutely zero complaints. All you need in Tamarindo and then some at a fair price.

You get what you pay for. The location is great- right in the middle of lots of restaurants, bars, nightlife and close to the beach. The hotel itself is just ok. The door to the bathroom doesn’t fully open, there are no pool towels or coffee or even cups. The pool is small with only 6 chairs total. The most difficult is the noise when you are trying to sleep.

This is a perfectly placed property right at the heart of all the action. Great access to the beach and restaurants as well as nightlife. Staff was great. Wished the room was bigger and had facecloths.
