I couldn't fault the guest house on it's service, location and the room, although I was disappointed with two things. Firstly, the check in. As I was checking in late, the hosts had been really kind and contacted me, who then provided me the self-check in codes. Upon checking in, I can then use an electronic card to replace the codes when entering the guest house and my room. The code provided didn't work. Luckily two guests came back at the same time when I was locked out outside and on the phone with the host, who kindly helped me and ensured I got to my room. I then went back out to get food. On return, the electronic card did not work. Called the host again, who then provided the electronic code for the entrance again. That's when we found that the code provided earlier was incorrect. There was a later message to my phone to say the code was incorrect though. So overall, I had a card which did not function properly. When I finally got to bed, there was a constant noise coming from somewhere within the building. It was like a boiler or generator kind of motor engine sound. Even with my ear plugs on (which a guest shouldn't be wearing these to sleep), I was still able to hear it. It was still on when I left next morning. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well. The lack of parking was mentioned on booking. The hosts allow guests to park on their designated parking space at a cost. Considering the parking fees elsewhere in city centre, it's only reasonable.

Location OK However the property has rules that are unacceptible such as no food to be consumed in the room no breakfast or food is served by the hotel Last night the owners held a family gathering which became progressively more boisterois and the singing louder especially after 2AM I objected and the noise gradually abated thru to 2.30 AM as I had an early start!!

Great location
Very nice stay, ideal location, walking distance into town. Lots of nearby restaurants. Comfortable bed, only negative was the shower is particularly feeble and needs a shower pump.

Budget getaways.
Great two nights stay at Diamond Guesthouse on Bishopthorpe road. Located in a nice part of York, and very close to the centre of the city. Would definitely recommend it, especially for a family looking for a budget weekend break.

Nice, comfortable room.
Nice, comfortable room. Check-in was easy enough, although it would probably make things easier if the access codes were emailed on the day of entry.

Good area and value for money
Family run venue close to nice cafes and bars on Bishopthorpe Road. Good value for money, even at times of the year when some venues put their prices extortionately.

Ok. Stayed in better, stayed in worse. It’s an old building so it feels like it needs a refurb but limited in what you can do without spending mega bucks! Self checkin was ok. Not happy had to pay £7pn for parking. Owner helpful over phone

Trip to York
Lovely hotel, close to train station and tourist attractions. Hotel is situated in a lovely quiet road with lots of shops and places to eat. Staff at hotel were friendly and helpful.

Big room, nothing special, but good for the money
Nice big room, no staff what so ever there so it was self check in etc, it said breakfast when I booked it but alas no breakfast or staff. No hot water when I wanted to bath me and the kids, however, despite this the room was really nice and big and actually for the money I would go again. We did find a t shirt and tooth brushes that was not ours so maybe the cleaning team could be a bit more vigilant.

The people who owned it or worked there were friendly and helpful. The man carried my daughter's case up the flight of stairs. He told us where the towels were kept and other things. The shower makes an awful lot of noise and needs seeing to. Also, some wet on the floor near the sink when used which needs seeing to. Apart from that a pleasant stay with a TV and a fridge. The fridge was a great surprise and loved getting fresh milk so we could make tea. The TV was under a slope so we had to watch our heads and think there should be a warning note to say duck our heads! We were greeted warmly when we arrived and left. Freindly people.

Very happy customer
Family overnight stay. It was central as only 10-15mins walk into town. Park nearby for kids. Best night sleep. Owners and staff very helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay again.

Get organised!
We arrived at the guest house in a cold evening, we had no code to get in, we rang an office who couldn’t find neither my name nor my booking number, I was asked to ring another office...eventually we got a code for the door, but doing all that in a cold and noisy street was extremely unpleasant. Great lack of organisation. This GH isn’t own by a private couple as it is often but a company and every exchange is done by phone. Not pleasant at all.

There was heating in the main part of the house, but none in our room. It was a very cold place to stay.

What no beer
Booked two rooms and when we arrived we where shown to one ,got the second room after some delay Rooms booked and advertised as deluxe triple ,no way Ended up after my stay with a bad back as in the room there was a wobbly chair and an even worse stool. Advertised daily house keeping ,must have forgotten on the days we where there As a grown man I don't like being told that if I drink in my room its £50 fine would watch for that Parking we had to pay for permits ,again not advertised when booking Would not stay again

We would never in Diamonds guest house again
The breakfast was in a basket. There was 3 staying in a room, but the landlady brought 2 bananas and 2 bowls with cornflakes and UHT milk. We thought there would be a cooked breakfast. There was no plug in the sink, which made it very difficult to run water into the sink. We would not stay in Diamonds guest house again. We were very disappointed in Hotels.com.
