We stayed for 1 night, so can't comment about the area, the pub is lovely, with a comfy area for drinking, bar area for eating & separate restaurant. Friendly, helpful staff & food was delicious. We had a dog & stayed in a separate building but this was fine & only 2mjn walk away. There is a deadend road opposite which is perfect for walking the dog with several poo bins. Would certainly stay again when in the area. It is right next to the A64 but we never heard any traffic in our room.

Great experience all round
What a great place this is. The pub is so lovely and so are the staff, so friendly and obliging. It was like a home from home. The food was 1st class and the huge breakfast set you up for the day. The Ham &Cheese Ploughman’s was epic. Nothing was too much trouble, a real gem.

Great stay, lovely big family room, very clean and comfortable beds. We had a very tasty evening meal when we arrived and super breakfast the next day.

Very welcoming , and everything we had was excellent , l met my family for lunch on the day we arrived , it was lovely . We all enjoyed the food, good selection .

We asked for aground floor as we do not do well with steps and they put us in an annex which was obviously new and was just right for us. Our fault that we didn't ask for clean towels etc. The staff are all very welcoming and the meals variable and very enjoyable.

Family Fun
We spent 2 nights at the Ham and Cheese and were thoroughly delighted with every aspect and service they provided. The food was delicious and served efficiently with a friendly smile. The 3 rooms we utilised were clean and well furnished. Bathrooms were a bit small but the shower was fairly big and worked well. Well situated for places we wished to visit, York, Pickering, Whitby and Scarborough. Great stay overall.

Great family break location
Great family room for our family of 5! Super comfy, clean and just what we needed for our weekend away. Superb breakfast, the pack lunches they helped provide were perfect, and the evening meal was incredible! Would recommend to any family needing to stay in the area!

The property is located just off the A64. It’s within easy, travelling distance of Castle, Howard, Scampston Hall, Malton and the coast. I stayed for two nights. I slept well. My room was comfortable and clean.. I had a good breakfast both days, one of the evenings ate in the pub. The food was delicious. Parking was easy. All the staff I dealt with by friendly and helpful. I would stay there again

The only problem I had was that the double bed was a 4 foot wide this is not wide enough for 2 adults I stayed in room 5 my friend was in room 1 and he had a 4ft6in bed

Lovely staff!
The staff were absolutely lovely. The food was plentiful. The breakfast was good. The room was fine Next door's guests were rather loud & sweary at night through the thin walls but that's not the hotel's fault! Would definitely stay again

Great rooms, slow breakfast service.
The rooms are lovely and the bar / restaurant service was great. I would recommend taking earplugs with you as the walls in the rooms appeared to be quite thin and I could hear everything in the other rooms next to me. Also, breakfast service was very slow and started too late (8am but they did have a sign in the room saying a pack-up could be made - which I didn’t see until I was leaving). I was sat there for 10 minutes before I was asked what I actually wanted to eat. I was only the second person to go down for breakfast so it’s not like it was busy. The lady was chatting to a couple that were already in the restaurant for a while before asking them for tea and coffee and then coming to me. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to sample whether the food was decent or not as I abandoned waiting for it to arrive. The whole experience was too slow. All I can say is the food for the evening meal was great.

Utrolig fin Pub, med nydelige Hotel etter. Personlig service. God mat. Hjelpsomme hyggelige folk. Vi reiste med tog og tok bussen til puben ca 8km. Bussholdeplass rett ved. Vi likte oss så godt at vi kjøpte en ekstra natt på stedet.

Excellent whole stay was lovely.
Could not fault anything. What a brilliant place. We had last minute booking which they went out of their way to help with. We had double room with en suite it was clean comfortable plenty of towels etc. Proper yorkshire tea 🍵👌 Staff and host fantastic thanks for making our stay so lovely. We'll be back

Comfortable and welcoming
We have just had a great 2 night stay here. The family room was huge, very clean and comfortable (the photos dont do it justice). Breakfast was perfect and we also had evening meals each night which were big portions. We found it a very friendly environment and enjoyed relaxing in the bar and playing pool. Great base for Whitby, Flamingo Land and Filey. We would definitely return.

Enjoyable stay
It is an older property so don’t expect a modern room or bathroom, shower not very powerful. The service and staff was excellent. Dinner and breakfast was fabulous. We will certainly make a return visit one day.

Great stay
Would highly recommend the Ham and Cheese. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Rooms were clean and nicely decorated. Tea and Coffee supplied with extra if you needed it. Food was lovely with a good choice for everyone including breakfast. Thoroughly enjoyed stay brilliant spot and plenty of parking. Would stay again.

Happy at the Ham & Cheese!!
After a fun filled day at Flamingo Land we arrived at the Inn just after 7pm to a warm welcome. Had a delicious evening meal before retiring for the night. Room was fantastic for the 5 of us. The fan was a bonus!! A yummy cooked breakfast in the morning set us up for our journey home! Beautiful place to stay, staff so lovely. Will stay here again!!
